About the prospect

This fixed-term apprenticeship runs for up to four years and is designed to support you as you learn the assembly, disassembly, maintenance and overhaul of underground mining materials handling equipment. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to become a qualified Fitter & Turner and build a strong foundation for a career in the mechanical trade.

You’ll gain exposure to conveyor components, gearboxes, driveline equipment, winching equipment, hydraulic power packs and hydraulic-driven equipment, while learning how to work safely and accurately in a busy workshop environment.

What you’ll learn

- How to read blueprints, drawings and specifications to understand job requirements.
- How to operate workshop tools, machinery and equipment used in mechanical fitting.
- Assembly, disassembly and overhaul of underground conveyor components,



gearboxes and mechanical drive assemblies.
- Hydraulic fault finding, repair and maintenance of hydraulic power packs and related equipment.
- How to plan work, compile material lists, record job hours and support day-to-day workshop duties.
- Safe work practices, WH&S; requirements and how to contribute positively in a team environment.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for enthusiastic, reliable and safety-minded applicants with mechanical aptitude, initiative and a genuine interest in learning a trade. You’ll enjoy practical hands-on work, be comfortable working as part of a team, and be willing to learn from experienced tradespeople in a busy workshop environment. Completion of Year 12 is required, and previous school-based work experience or a Certificate in Engineering Pathways will be highly regarded.
