About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Mine Planning Engineer to provide leadership and direction for the mine planning function at our Broken Hill Operation.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of a complex underground mining operation by leading mine planning activities, supporting strategic decision-making, and mentoring a team of planning engineers.
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will work closely with operations, geology, and geotechnical teams to deliver practical, safe, and value-driven mine plans that support operational and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of short, medium,
and long-term mine plans
- Coordinate life-of-mine planning activities and mine design optimisation initiatives
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Mine Planning Engineers and technical team members
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of mine planning standards and processes
- Ensure mine designs and planning activities align with:
- MDG (Mine Design Guidelines)
- PHMP (Principal Hazard Management Plans)
- GCMP (Ground Control Management Plans)
- Relevant NSW regulatory requirements
- Facilitate planning reviews and contribute to technical decision-making processes
- Work collaboratively with operations, geology, and geotechnical teams to ensure integrated planning outcomes
- Identify opportunities to improve mine performance, productivity, and resource recovery
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes
- Promote safe work practices and proactive risk management across technical services
About You
You are an experienced underground mining engineer who enjoys leading teams, building capability, and delivering practical planning solutions in challenging mining environments.
You will have:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) – essential
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in underground mine planning
- Experience in hard rock underground mining – essential
- Experience developing short,
medium, and long-term mine plans
- Strong understanding of underground mine design principles and planning processes
- Sound knowledge of NSW mining legislation and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence stakeholders across technical and operational teams
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
Highly Regarded:
- Experience working in remnant mining environments
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring engineers
- Experience with strategic mine planning and optimisation studies
- Proficiency with industry-standard mine planning software
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational excellence
