About the Role
School Learning Support Officers provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs, including disability, in classrooms and other learning settings under the direction and supervision of a teacher. The role supports the achievement of educational outcomes and encompasses student welfare, health, and wellbeing activities. Officers may also provide specific support in pre‑school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual settings, with additional duties for those working in these specialized streams.
Responsibilities
Support students with diverse learning needs to meet educational outcomes.
Assist in student welfare, health, and wellbeing activities as required.
Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized support plans.
Deliver targeted support in specialized streams such as pre‑school, vision, hearing, and bilingual settings.
Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom workplace.
Essential Requirements
Working with Children Check clearance.
Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education, including first aid training relevant to the role.
Training in medication administration as required by student needs.
Health support training as required by student needs (subject to transition provisions).
Selection Criteria
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Experience working with students with emotional, physical, or intellectual disabilities.
Awareness of the needs of students with disabilities.
Effective communication skills.
