Iberdrola Australia is delivering major energy infrastructure that will support the continued development and resilience of Australia's electricity network.
The Testing & Commissioning Lead will contribute to the Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector West project, working across a complex program of transmission line and terminal station works.
The project involves multiple contractors, network operators, equipment manufacturers and regulatory stakeholders.
About the Role
Reporting to the Delivery Manager, the Testing & Commissioning Engineer Lead will drive the development of the project's overarching testing and commissioning strategy.
Joining during the development phase, you will influence how assets are designed, procured, factory tested, installed, commissioned and ultimately energised.
You will establish the commissioning philosophy, sequencing, packaging approach, outage strategy and system integration requirements across the project lifecycle.
You will provide owner-side oversight and technical assurance across:
500 kV overhead transmission lines and terminal stations
Primary plant, STATCOMs, shunt reactors and capacitor banks
Protection, control, SCADA, communications and metering systems
Factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing and pre-commissioning
Outage planning, switching, energisation and operational handover
Integrated and inter-regional system testing
Working closely with design and construction contractors, OEMs, AEMO, TNSPs, VicGrid and operational teams, you will review and challenge commissioning plans, coordinate network interfaces and ensure activities meet technical, contractual, safety and program requirements.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an engineer who can set the standard, develop effective contractor relationships and confidently challenge technical approaches where required.
About You
You are an experienced testing & commissioning skilled with a strong background in high-voltage transmission infrastructure and a detailed understanding of the complete asset lifecycle-from design and procurement through construction, testing, energisation and handover.
You will bring
A Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or an equivalent discipline
At least eight years' experience in high-voltage transmission testing and commissioning
Experience with systems operating above 275 kV, ideally at 400 kV or 500 kV
Demonstrated experience across substations, transmission lines and integrated systems
Knowledge of FAT, SAT, inspection and test plans, pre-energisation and completion processes
Experience coordinating outages and energisation within operational networks
Working knowledge of AEMO processes, grid compliance frameworks and Australian Standards
Experience with IEC ***** and process bus implementation
The ability to manage contractors, review programs and challenge technical submissions
Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, safety and risk-management capability
Australian network experience and familiarity with AEMO requirements will be highly regarded.
Candidates with relevant network authorisations, HV switching or access permits, construction industry tickets or high-risk safety training will also be viewed favourably.
The Benefits
Senior strategic role on a significant Australian transmission project
Opportunity to shape testing and commissioning from development through energisation
Broad technical exposure across transmission lines, terminal stations and integrated systems
Melbourne-based position with travel to regional Victorian sites
Potential overseas travel to support factory acceptance testing
High level of influence across contractors, suppliers, network operators and project leadership
This role will suit a technically credible and commercially aware leader who is motivated by complex infrastructure, system-wide testing and the safe transition of major electrical assets into operation.
