TheDataXand Economics teams sit withinWIB DDAI(Data, Digital & AI) and deliver data-driven products and insights to external institutional clients, while Economics provides macroeconomic research and forecasts that shapes Westpac's market voice.
If you're a highly experienced Data Science SME who is ahands-on builderand thrives on translating complex ideas into real-world, production-grade solutions—this is your platform to shine!
Working within theDataX + Economics partnership, you'll leverage shared data assets, modern tooling, and scalable platforms to deliver high-impact outcomes for institutional clients and internal research.
Day to Day Focus
Build and deployeconometric + machine learning (ML) modelsfor forecasting, nowcasting, and scenario analysis
DevelopAI-enabled tools(NLP, automation, insight generation) to transform research workflows into production
Translateeconomic hypotheses into robust quantitative frameworks
Work hands-on withmacro, transaction, and alternative datasetsto unlock insights at scale
Driveend-to-end model lifecycle—from experimentation to production, validation, and governance
Present insights to bothtechnical and executive audiences
Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science
Proven experience deliveringproduction-grade data science / ML solutions(not just POCs or academic work)
Solid background instatistical modelling and time-series analysis
Deep capability inPython (scikit-learn, statsmodels, PyTorch/TensorFlow)
Deep track record buildingscalable models and data-driven products




Ability to operate incomplex enterprise environmentswith strong stakeholder engagement
Economics, econometrics, or financial markets exposure
Experience buildingNLP / LLM-driven solutions,complementedby solidCloud ML platforms (Azure ML, SageMaker or similar)
Experience working alongsideresearch, strategy, or domain experts
You'recurious, commercial, and delivery-focused and youget energy from turning ambiguity intostructured, scalable solutions
You're ahands-on problem solverwho ships—not just experiments and you communicate complex ideas with clarity and influence
