St Stephen's School is looking for an energetic and physically fit maintenance / grounds person to work with the Property Services team working across both our Duncraig and Carramar campuses.
A solid work ethic and a positive attitude is expected, along with well-developed organisational skills and the ability to maintain grounds and gardens of a large facility.
The role requirements are split between grounds work and maintenance depending on Campus (Duncraig or Carramar), school demands and time of the year.
This is a Full Time position (37.5 hours per week), starting as soon as possible (or by negotiation).
Duties
You will have a range of duties where you may be working as part of a team or on your own demonstrating and utilising your skills and experience completing tasks.
You will be ensuring the site is excellently maintained and will be responsible for various gardening, landscaping and maintenance duties including but not limited to:
Facility maintenance related tasks, handyman duties,
Routine trade and non-trade maintenance and repairs;
Using a range of horticultural equipment including a blower, hedger, whipper snipper, push mower and ride on mowers;
Gardening, mowing, watering, machine operation, weeding, spraying, Planting, mulching, raking and general gardening, landscaping and reticulation
"Front of school" defined as grounds/buildings/playground equipment etc. that the parent's see every day, to be maintained to a high standard and given the highest priority
Assisting with School events eg set up, movement and pick up of equipment and furniture
Required to follow best practice on ways of working Safely as per Australian Standards at all times.
Requirements
Demonstrated organisational skills – including ability to prioritise – and effective time management
Hands on competence across a broad range of maintenance and landscaping tasks, including mowing, painting, maintaining lighting etc of a large facility




Experience in commercial / large scale reticulation systems (desirable but not essential)
Initiative, problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
Physical attributes: Capable of doing physical work through all seasons and have the physical attributes to do manual work for the majority ofa day if required
Be a team orientated person
Strong commitment to Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

The Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act **** applies for anyone working in child related employment
National Criminal Record Checking
Sound knowledge and experience in building and grounds maintenance
Fit for vigorous physical labour associated with operational tasks
Sound communication and interpersonal skills
Analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability to act as a team member
Proven ability in working under pressure in a busy environment
Sound knowledge of Safety Culture and safe work practices
Familiar with technology (hardware and software)
Familiarity with hand-tools will be looked on favourably
A working knowledge of commercial reticulation is desirable but not essential
A "can do" attitude to any situation
Willingness to positively and actively contribute to the Christian culture of the School
