Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of Victoria's leading tertiary neonatal referral centres, providing specialised care for premature, critically ill, and medically complex newborns from across the state. We care for some of the most vulnerable babies and their families, delivering highly specialised neonatal care within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

A regular day will see you:
Performing and coordinating Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening for premature and at‐risk infants using RETCam retinal imaging technology.
Working closely with ophthalmologists to support the assessment, diagnosis and management of ROP.
Educating and supporting families, explaining screening results, treatment plans and follow‐up requirements within a Family Integrated Care (FICare) model.
Coordinating care across neonatal, ophthalmology, allied health and community teams to ensure infants receive timely screening, treatment and follow‐up care.
Providing expert advice and consultation to neonatal clinicians and healthcare providers across The Women's and Victorian neonatal services.
Delivering the ROP Outreach Program, travelling to metropolitan and regional neonatal units across Victoria to improve access to specialist screening services.
Leading education, mentoring and capability development activities to support best practice in neonatal ophthalmology care
Contributing to quality improvement, clinical governance, audit and research activities that enhance service delivery and outcomes for babies and families.
Building strong partnerships with families, neonatal services and healthcare providers to ensure a seamless and family‐centred care experience
About You
You are an experienced neonatal nurse with extensive NICU experience and a passion for improving outcomes for premature and vulnerable infants. You bring strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships with families and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Ideally, you have experience in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening, retinal imaging, or neonatal ophthalmology services and are committed to partnering with families through a Family Integrated Care approach. You are excited by the opportunity to contribute to an innovative statewide outreach service that improves access to specialist care for babies and families across Victoria.
You Will Bring
Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife
Extensive neonatal nursing experience, including experience working within a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Advanced clinical expertise in the assessment, management, and coordination of care for high‐risk neonatal patients.
Experience in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening, retinal imaging, neonatal ophthalmology services, or demonstrated ability to develop expertise in a specialised area of neonatal practice.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills,



with the ability to build trusted relationships with families, multidisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders.
A commitment to Family Integrated Care and partnering with families through education, support, and shared decision‐making.
Experience in clinical leadership, quality improvement, education, research, or evidence‐based practice initiatives.
Excellent organisational, problem‐solving, and time‐management skills, with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
A current Victorian Driver Licence and willingness to travel throughout Victoria as part of the ROP Outreach Program.
A passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable newborns and ensuring equitable access to specialist care for babies and families across Victoria.
