Permaconn is the ANZ market leader in electronic security alarm signalling and the security IoT market. The business provides a secure, highly resilient communications network as a service that manages communications between any professionally installed alarm system (residential, commercial, government) and any Monitoring Centre (~100 across ANZ). Permaconn's technology works over IP networks and all digital mobile networks (2G, 3G, 4G, and the latest dedicated IoT networks) across multiple network operators.
Headquartered in Sydney and operating since ****, Permaconn is the #1 market leader in cellular-grade wireless alarm signalling with ~70% market share. This position is underpinned by a 20-year history of technology leadership and product innovation, combined with customer-centric design and execution that delivers high reliability ******% network uptime), plug-and-play ease of use, and superior customer service and support (recent NPS of 71). The company has over 300,000 cellular edge devices using half a million SIMs. All development and engineering work across hardware, firmware, networks, software, and end-user platforms is done in-house in Sydney.
Role Purpose
Lead Permaconn's internal IT function as a hands‐on player‐coach — managing a small team while remaining technically engaged across day‐to‐day operations. You'll own the reliability, security, and continuous improvement of the company's IT systems, identity, endpoints, and SaaS estate, set direction and standards for the team, and act as the senior escalation point for complex issues. You'll recommend technology investments and manage vendors, with spend approved by the Director of Technology.
Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2–4 IT staff; set priorities, allocate work, and manage performance and growth.
Run the IT service desk operation — define SLAs, triage and escalation paths, and drive ticket quality and resolution times in Jira Service Management.
Establish and maintain IT standards, policies, runbooks, and documentation; ensure consistent, repeatable processes across the team.
Act as senior technical escalation point for complex incidents and requests.
Recommend and manage technology spend within budgets approved by the Director of Technology; own vendor relationships, procurement, and contract renewals.
Report on IT health, risks, and improvement initiatives to the Director of Technology.

Identity & Access Management
Identity and access provisioning is the single largest area of IT demand (~30% of team workload).
Own identity and access management across the business — provisioning, modification, and deprovisioning of accounts and permissions.
Manage user access controls across all IT systems, including email, domain/network credentials, and single sign‐on via Azure Active Directory (Azure AD / Entra ID).
Administer access and SSO for developer and business tooling, including GitLab, SharePoint, and internal applications.
Govern access requests — drive toward role‐based access and least‐privilege models, and automate provisioning where possible.
Endpoint & Security Management
Manage endpoint devices through Microsoft Intune — enrolment, compliance policies, configuration profiles, and application deployment across Windows and macOS fleets.
Administer endpoint and identity security policies — Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) rules, Conditional Access, Microsoft Defender, BitLocker key management, and MFA enforcement.
Ensure the security, integrity, and availability of all company systems, accounts, and information, including internal reviews and coordination of periodic external security audits.
Administer the company password manager / privileged credential vault (e.g. Keeper).
Oversee security patching across hardware and software.
Systems, Infrastructure & Networks
Keep the network (servers, switches, firewalls, routing, remote access/VPN, Tailscale) running smoothly; resolve LAN/WAN and connectivity issues; work with vendors to resolve faults.
Monitor and maintain computer systems, servers, storage, and networks; ensure capacity meets business needs and identify bottlenecks and required upgrades.
Oversee physical server maintenance — replacement of failed parts, disk health checks, and decommissioning of retired hardware.
Administer cloud infrastructure and services across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.
Ensure company information is organised, accessible,

and backed up regularly; regularly test that backups can be restored to active use.
Administer and support the wider SaaS estate — e.g. Microsoft 365, SugarCRM, MYOB, PowerBI, Zoom Phone, Copilot, Culture Amp — including provisioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Administer software and licence management — assignment, optimisation, renewals, and reclaiming unused licences.
Support endpoint, peripheral, AV, telephony (Zoom Phone), and digital‐signage hardware across the business.
Manage IT asset procurement, the asset register, hardware lifecycle tracking, and vendor relationships.
Onboarding, Offboarding & Automation
Own the full onboarding and offboarding lifecycle — account creation, workstation setup, access provisioning, device enrolment, shared‐mailbox delegation, ex‐employee mail handling, and timely closure of unused accounts.
Develop and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Microsoft Graph) to automate repetitive processes — particularly onboarding/offboarding, account lifecycle, and device setup.
Continuously seek ways to improve company efficiency through better IT services, reducing cost and manual effort.
Educate and train staff on IT and software usage; build self‐service resources where useful.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years
in IT support / systems administration, including team leadership or supervisory experience.
Windows and macOS
— strong hands‐on troubleshooting across hardware and software.
Microsoft 365 & Azure AD / Entra ID
— deep administration of Exchange, Teams, SharePoint and identity/access management.
Microsoft Azure and AWS
— hands‐on cloud services administration.
Endpoint & identity security
— Conditional Access, MFA, Defender, ASR, BitLocker.
Scripting & automation
— PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
Networking
— LAN/WAN, switches, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, VPN/remote access.
Experience administering a broad SaaS estate and managing software licensing.
Experience with Jira Service Management (or similar) and robust documentation discipline.
Vendor and procurement management experience.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management; able to translate technical concepts for non‐technical staff.
Experience supporting an engineering‐led organisation (GitLab, developer tooling).
Tertiary qualification in IT or a related field.
