WHO WE ARE
Workplace Advantage is a boutique workplace relations advisory. We advise senior leaders on the workplace matters that carry legal, commercial and reputational consequence: investigations, Fair Work Commission matters, enterprise bargaining, restructures and complex employee relations.
We sit in the gap between generalist HR consultancies, and employment law firms. Every matter is led by a senior advisor.
Workplace Advantage was founded by Kristen Wall, a workplace relations and human resources specialist with more than twelve years of employee relations, industrial relations and HR experience at BHP, and a qualified employment lawyer before that.
WHAT YOU WON'T BE DOING
This is not a generalist HR Business Partner role. You won't be running recruitment campaigns, administering performance review cycles or providing day-to-day HR helpdesk support.
What you will do: lead a serious misconduct investigation from notice through to report. Advise clients on restructures, performance management, workers compensation, unfair dismissal and general protection risks. Run enterprise bargaining from log of claims through to Commission approval.
Mediate between parties once an investigation's findings have landed.
These are the interesting matters that you will be advising on. Not a generalist HR caseload.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Employee and industrial relations advisory
- Advise on performance management, misconduct, grievances, disputes, terminations and redundancies.
- Advise clients operating in unionised and regulated environments, including union interactions, consultative obligations and dispute resolution.
- Interpret and apply the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, enterprise agreements and industrial instruments.
- Advise on underpayment claims and Modern Award compliance.
Workplace investigations
- Lead end-to-end investigations into bullying, harassment,
discrimination, fraud, conflicts of interest and reliable misconduct.
- Apply procedural fairness at every stage: planning, notice, interview, evidence assessment and findings.
- Prepare defensible investigation reports and support post-investigation outcomes.
Fair Work Commission and tribunals
- Prepare applications, responses and submissions, and advise on strategy.
Enterprise bargaining and industrial relations
- Support enterprise agreement negotiation, drafting and Fair Work Commission approval.
- Manage union relationships, including right of entry, delegate matters and dispute resolution under the agreement.
Mediation and restorative practice
- Facilitate mediated discussions and restorative conversations to repair working relationships after conflict or a completed investigation.
- Act as a trusted senior advisor, exercising full autonomy and independent judgement without day-to-day supervision.
- Build client capability through practical coaching and training delivery.
- Support consultation processes, committees and consultative forums on safety, conditions or employee engagement.
WHERE YOU'LL WORK
We recently moved into Smart Space at the University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus. First-floor offices, end-of-trip facilities, meeting rooms and on-campus parking, in North Wollongong. If you've been driving to Sydney for this calibre of work, it's now available without the commute.
WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO THE ROLE
- Eight or more years advising on employee and industrial relations, including unionised or regulated environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading formal workplace investigations to a high, defensible standard.
- Fair Work Commission or tribunal experience, highly regarded.
- Senior judgement and the confidence to operate independently.
Full-time, permanent, hybrid. Salary will depend on experience.
