Head of Learning Area - Design and Technologies

John Wollaston Anglican Community School (JWACS) is seeking an innovative, passionate and experienced educational leader to join our team as the Head of Design and Technologies. This full-time (1.0 FTE) position will commence in Term 1, 2027.

Reporting to the Dean of Teaching and Learning, this middle leadership position combines teaching responsibilities with dedicated leadership release time. You will lead a dynamic team of educators overseeing the disciplines of Digital Technologies, Design Technologies (Woods and Metal), Foods, Hospitality, and Textiles while fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, collaboration and excellence in teaching and learning.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated educator to drive curriculum innovation, mentor staff, and shape excellence in teaching and learning across the Design and Technologies disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

- Uphold and actively promote the Mission, Vision, Ethos and Core Values of Angli Schools and John Wollaston Anglican Community School.
- Foster and support a strong child safety culture.
- Deliver high-quality teaching in Design and Technologies demonstrating strong knowledge of curriculum content and structure and applying contemporary pedagogical practices.
- Monitor and assess student progress effectively, using data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes.
- Lead, mentor and support staff across Design and Technologies disciplines, promoting collaboration, professional growth, and consistent high-quality teaching practices.




- Manage learning area responsibilities effectively through strong organisational, administrative and time management skills.
- Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, parents and carers through strong interpersonal and communication skills.

You have a clear vision for the future direction and growth of Design and Technologies.

You are a values-driven educator who is committed to child safety and demonstrate integrity, professionalism and care in all interactions.

You bring strong expertise in Design and Technologies curriculum, underpinned by contemporary teaching and assessment approaches, and model exemplary classroom practice in one discipline.

You lead collaboratively, fostering support and confidence among colleagues across multiple disciplines.

You understand the pastoral needs of students and are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

You are highly organised, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You are approachable, inclusive and relationship-focused, with the ability to engage positively with a wide range of stakeholders.





You hold a Bachelor of Education or an equivalent qualification supported by a Postgraduate Diploma of Education.

You are registered with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).

You hold a current Working with Children Card or are willing to obtain one prior to commencement.
