Job description

The Mechanical Assembly Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating mechanical assembly activities within the production team for the manufacture of the Acova Visual Analysis device. This role combines hands-on mechanical assembly with leadership, planning, and coordination responsibilities to ensure mechanical builds are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

Reporting to the Production manager (or General manager in the absence of a Production Manager), the Mechanical Assembly Lead works closely and communicates openly with other production leads and supporting production staff to ensure coordinated workflows and timely progression through the assembly and commissioning process.

The role also requires consultation with Mechanical, Product, and Electrical Design teams as required to resolve build issues, clarify design intent, and support continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and coordinate day-to-day mechanical assembly activities for production builds
- Manage, supervise, and support staff within the mechanical assembly team.
- Undertake hands-on mechanical assembly, fitting, alignment, and integration of mechanical components and sub-assemblies.
- Work closely with the Electrical/Commissioning Assembly Lead to coordinate build sequencing and handover for commissioning.
- Maintain open and proactive communication across the production team to support efficient workflows and issue resolution.
- Track mechanical assembly progress against production schedules and report status, risks, and delays to the Production Manager.




- Liaise with the Purchasing Officer to ensure availability of mechanical components and consumables.
- Consult with Design teams to clarify drawings, resolve design-relates issues, and implement changes.
- Ensure mechanical assemblies meet required quality standards prior to handover to electrical and commissioning.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in assembly processes, tooling, and workflows.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of mechanical assembly procedures, work instructions, and documentation.
- Support training, mentoring, and development of mechanical assembly staff.
- Maintain a safe, organised and efficient workshop environment.
- Undertake other duties as reasonably instructed, provided they are within the scope, skills, and responsibilities of the role.

- Mechanical assemblies completed in accordance with design specifications and production schedules.
- Timely and accurate handover of mechanically complete machines to electrical and commissioning.
- Clear reporting on mechanical build progress, risks, and constraints.
- Consistent quality and repeatability of mechanical assemblies.
- Up-to-date mechanical assembly documentation and work instructions.
- Effective leadership and management of mechanical assembly staff,



evidenced through clear task allocation, open communication, timely issue resolution, and a stable, productive team culture.
- Visible leadership in workplace health and safety, including proactive risk management, compliance and development of WHS procedures, and positive safety behaviors within the mechanical assembly team.

Qualifications / Experience

- Trade qualification in Mechanical Assembly, Mechanical Fitting, Manufacturing, or related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical assembly within a manufacturing, production, or R&D; environment.
- Experience leading or supervising a technical or trades-based team.
- Strong ability to interpret mechanical drawings, CAD outputs, and technical documentation.
- Experience working with precision mechanical assemblies and integrated systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage work to meet production timelines.
- Relevant licenses (e.g. forklift) desirable but not essential.
