Contract Role: Principal Data Engineer (Snowflake / Medallion Architecture)

We are partnering with a prominent Queensland Public Sector Organisation in Brisbane to secure an experienced Principal Data Engineer for a key enterprise transformation project.

In this role, you’ll provide both strategic technical leadership and hands-on delivery to uplift the organisation's enterprise data warehouse and medallion architecture.

- Daily Rate: $1,000 – $1,200/day (inclusive of Super)
- Location: Brisbane CBD (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)
- Contract Duration: Immediate start through 27 November 2026 (with potential extension)
- Reporting To: Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics

What You’ll Do

- Platform Architecture: Lead the design, optimisation, and scaling of the enterprise Snowflake data warehouse environment.
- Medallion Architecture Uplift: Refine Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers to improve data quality, lineage, and usability across business-critical datasets.
- Governance & Catalogue: Establish enterprise metadata practices using Snowflake Horizon Catalog and maintain a robust enterprise data catalogue.
- Modern Pipelines: Build and enhance high-performing ELT/ETL frameworks, automation, orchestration, and API integrations.
- Mentorship:



Coach internal team members to build sustainable in-house data engineering capabilities.
- Data Stack Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with Snowflake and cloud-based data platforms (Azure experience highly regarded).
- Core Engineering Skills: Advanced SQL, deep expertise in data modeling, and proven mastery of Medallion Architecture patterns.
- Pipeline Delivery: Robust capability in designing modern ELT/ETL pipelines, orchestration frameworks, and API integrations.
- Data Governance & Quality: Solid understanding of data lineage, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to bridge the gap between technical architecture and strategic business outcomes.

Bonus Points:

- Snowflake Snow Pro (Core or Advanced) or Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate certifications.
- Experience in government or regulated sector environments.
