Technical Solution Architect – Institutional Trading / Crypto Exchange

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Solution Architect to lead the design and evolution of the institutional connectivity and access layer for a high-performance trading platform.
This is a hands‑on architectural leadership role responsible for the end‑to‑end design, implementation, and optimisation of trading system connectivity—particularly the FIX protocol‑based APIs used by institutional clients, liquidity providers, and trading counterparties.
You will define and own the architecture that enables secure, scalable, and low‑latency order flow into the exchange, ensuring world‑class reliability and performance across all external trading integrations.
This role also includes managing a distributed engineering team (20–30 people across multiple regions) and working closely with product, engineering, risk, and compliance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and evolution of core trading system architecture for a digital asset exchange
Own institutional connectivity and API architecture, with a strong focus on FIX protocol (4.4)
Design high‑availability, high‑throughput, and low‑latency systems supporting:
Order matching
Market data distribution
Clearing and settlement workflows
Risk and compliance controls
Define and maintain FIX API specifications, interface documentation, and integration standards
Ensure seamless integration for institutional clients and liquidity providers
Identify system bottlenecks and deliver forward‑looking architectural improvements
Lead technical design reviews and drive implementation across engineering teams
Establish architecture standards, engineering best practices, and development guidelines
Collaborate with compliance and risk teams to ensure regulatory alignment
Monitor industry trends in distributed systems, exchange infrastructure, and blockchain technologies, and apply relevant innovations
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a cross‑functional engineering team
Manage cross‑regional collaboration across development, QA, Dev Ops, and infrastructure teams
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
10 years of software engineering and system architecture experience
3 years in crypto exchange, trading venue, or traditional financial markets (FX,
equities, derivatives, etc.)
Deep understanding of exchange systems including:
Matching engines
Market data systems
Clearing/settlement workflows
Risk management systems
Strong expertise in FIX protocol (4.4 or higher) including API design and implementation
Proven experience designing low‑latency, high‑concurrency distributed systems
Strong programming background in at least one major language (e.g., Java, C, Go)
Experience with messaging systems, caching layers, and distributed databases
Understanding of blockchain concepts is beneficial
Strong commercial and business awareness within financial markets
Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical architecture
Experience leading cross‑functional engineering teams across multiple regions
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Nice to Have
Experience working in global exchange environments or tier‑1 trading institutions
Hands‑on experience building or optimising FIX gateways
Exposure to international or multi‑regulatory environments
Experience scaling trading systems under high‑volume conditions
