KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The General Hand primarily supports the broader STW team across a diverse range of functions.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Act in replacement of a regular workstation- Welder, Metal Fabricator, Blaster, Machinist, or Powdercoater.

2. Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.

3. Determine the appropriate equipment or method based on requirements.

4. Set up components for welding and joining according to specifications.

5. Operate tools to prepare the parts for assembly.

6. Machine parts and components to be used to assemble final products.

7. Align components using callipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces.

8.



Use manual or semi-automatic equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).

9. Test and inspect surfaces, structures, and components to discover flaws.

10. Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.

11. Other duties related to skill and capabilities as required.

PERFORMANCE GOALS:

1. Complete tasks on time and to the required standard.

2. Responsible for quality of own work subject to routine supervision.

3. Plans own work in consultation with the Floor Manager or Leadership Team.

4. Deal with employees professionally at all times.

5. Ensure their workspace is always clean and presentable.

Requirements

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

1. Proven experience in metalwork.

2. Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers, etc.).

3. Experience in using large machinery such as lathes and mills.

4. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.

5. Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face shield, gloves, etc.).

6. Proven deftness and attention to detail.

7. Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential Criteria

1. Proficient in English

2. Completion of year 10 WACE or equivalent

Desirable Criteria

1. Successful completion of a VET program or apprenticeship is highly desirable.

2. Professional certification will be a plus.

3. Experience using various welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, etc.).
