As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Commissioning Generator Technician to join our team and work on some of Australia's largest and most exciting power generation projects.
UPSA proudly operates under the ETU Victoria Construction Industry Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA), providing industry-leading wages, allowances and conditions.
About the Role
As a Commissioning Generator Technician, you will be responsible for commissioning, testing, fault finding and supporting diesel and gas generator systems ranging from standby installations to large multi-megawatt power stations.
Working alongside experienced commissioning engineers and technical specialists, you'll be involved in delivering complex projects within hyperscale data centres, mining, commercial, industrial and utility sectors throughout Australia.
This role offers excellent career progression with exposure to advanced generator control systems, synchronising equipment, protection systems and high-profile infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission diesel and gas generator systems in accordance with project specifications and Australian Standards.
- Perform mechanical and electrical commissioning activities.
- Conduct Level 1–5 commissioning, integrated system testing (IST), load bank testing and functional testing.
- Configure and test generator control systems, synchronising equipment, ATS systems and switchgear.
- Carry out protection testing, controls verification and performance validation.
- Diagnose and rectify electrical, mechanical and control system faults.
- Prepare commissioning documentation, test reports, punch lists and handover documentation.
- Liaise with project managers, clients, OEM representatives and subcontractors.
- Ensure all activities are completed safely and in accordance with UPSA's HSEQ procedures.
- Travel to customer sites across Victoria, interstate and occasionally overseas when required.
About You
You are passionate about power generation, enjoy solving technical challenges and take pride in delivering quality workmanship.
Essential Requirements
- A-Grade Victorian Electrical Licence.
- Demonstrated experience commissioning or servicing diesel and/or gas generator systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and fault-finding ability.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
- White Card.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
- Full Australian working rights.
Highly Desirable
- Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, MTU, Kohler, Mitsubishi or other major OEM generator packages.
- Knowledge of ComAp,
Deep Sea Electronics (DSE), Woodward, DEIF or CAT EMCP control systems.
- Experience with medium-voltage switchgear and generator circuit breakers.
- HV switching and testing experience.
- Experience with protection relays and power system testing.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, protection drawings and single-line diagrams.
- PLC, SCADA and Building Management System (BMS) integration experience.
- Experience working on Tier 1 Data Centre projects.
