Due to continued growth, Industrial Conveying (Aust) Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Automation Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, installation and commissioning of our turnkey materials handling and industrial automation solutions.

We are not looking for a purely theoretical engineer. We need someone who understands how machinery behaves in the field, can work through commissioning issues calmly, and can support customers, electricians, project teams and production staff to get systems running safely and reliably.

About the role

You will work across customised materials handling, conveying, logistics, robotics and industrial process solutions, supporting projects from control system design through to PLC/HMI development, testing, commissioning, customer handover and ongoing technical support.

What you’ll be doing

- Designing, programming and modifying PLC, HMI and SCADA systems for industrial automation projects.
- Commissioning conveyors, materials handling equipment, VSDs, servo systems, safety systems and industrial networks.
- Fault-finding live systems and resolving practical issues during installation, testing and start-up.
- Supporting FAT, SAT, site commissioning, customer training and handover documentation.
- Integrating PLC systems with WMS, WCS, SAP ERP/EWM, barcode/RFID systems and third‑party equipment.
- Working closely with electrical, mechanical, production, project and customer teams to deliver safe, reliable outcomes.




- Travelling to site as required, including some weekend work during commissioning and project delivery periods.

What we’re looking for

- Minimum 5 years’ practical experience in industrial automation, controls engineering or PLC programming.
- Strong hands‑on commissioning, troubleshooting and fault‑finding experience in industrial environments.
- Experience with Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix and Siemens S7/TIA Portal.
- Working knowledge of HMI/SCADA platforms such as FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition or FactoryTalk Optix.
- Experience with industrial networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP and OPC.
- Exposure to conveyors, sortation systems, ASRS, robotics, automated packaging or similar machinery will be highly regarded.
- A practical mindset, strong communication skills and the ability to work independently when solving site issues.

Qualifications

- Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering or equivalent trade/industry background.
- White Card preferred.
- Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, functional safety, AutoCAD Electrical or Engineers Australia credentials will be well regarded but are not a substitute for practical delivery experience.
- Wide-ranging, real‑world automation projects rather than repetitive desk‑based work.
