SMYL Community College is seeking Education Assistants who believe in the potential of every young person and are committed to helping them re-engage with education.
Operating across six campuses from Fremantle to Mandurah, SMYL supports young people aged * who face significant barriers to education.
Through individualised learning programs, trauma-informed practices and strong relationships, we help students reconnect with learning and achieve meaningful educational outcomes.
This is not a traditional education support role.
We are looking for people who are adaptable, resilient and able to build positive relationships with young people.
Success at SMYL is based on high expectations, inclusive practices, a commitment to meeting students where they are, and supporting them to move forward.
While staff are generally based at one campus, the cooperative nature of the College requires flexibility to work across campuses as needed.
Successful applicants will:
Build positive and respectful relationships with young people.
Support students to engage successfully in learning programs.
Assist in creating safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments.
Work collaboratively with teachers and the broader multidisciplinary team.
Support positive student engagement, participation and wellbeing.
Understand the impact of trauma and adversity on learning and engagement.
Essential Requirements:
Certificate IV in Education Support (or equivalent recognised qualification).
Experience supporting young people with diverse learning, behavioural or wellbeing needs.
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Current Working with Children Check.
Experience working with disengaged or at-risk young people, trauma-informed practice, project-based learning will be highly regarded.
