Male Support Worker Opportunity – Supporting a Participant with Autism & Psychosocial Disability

Location: Alkimos, WA
Position: Casual / Permanent Part-Time Support Worker (male staff)

Newlight Ability Services is seeking compassionate, resilient, and highly professional Support Workers to join a dedicated team supporting a female participant in her 30s living in Supported Independent Living (SIL).

This is a rewarding role for individuals who are patient, emotionally intelligent, and committed to delivering truly person-centred supports while maintaining skilled boundaries.

About the Participant

The participant is an intelligent and engaging woman with Autism, ADHD, psychosocial disability, and complex health needs. She values consistency, routine, clear communication, and being actively involved in decisions about her support.

She benefits most from support workers who remain calm under pressure, communicate respectfully, and are confident using Positive Behaviour Support strategies.

About the Role

You will work as part of a consistent support team to assist the participant with:

- Daily living skills and personal support.
- Meal planning and meal preparation.
- Medication support (as delegated).
- Community participation.
- Sensory regulation strategies.
- Encouraging hydration and healthy routines.
- Household tasks.
- Emotional support through positive engagement.
- Accurate documentation and qualified communication.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

- Has experience supporting people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Has experience supporting participants with psychosocial disability or mental health conditions.
- Demonstrates excellent emotional regulation and resilience.
- Can remain calm during periods of distress or heightened emotions.




- Uses a strengths-based and person-centred approach.
- Is able to redirect conversations respectfully without confrontation.
- Can maintain professional boundaries while building therapeutic rapport.
- Is consistent, reliable, and accountable.
- Is confident documenting objective observations.
- Works well within a multidisciplinary team.
- Is willing to learn and follow Positive Behaviour Support strategies.

Essential Requirements

- NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain if required).
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- National Police Clearance.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
- Comprehensive vehicle insurance.
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
- Medication competency (or willingness to complete training).

Desirable Skills

- Experience supporting participants with Autism and sensory regulation needs.
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support.
- Mental health support experience.
- Experience implementing behaviour support plans.
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Registered Nurses, allied health professionals, families, and support coordinators.
