Join a large Queensland Government department delivering and supporting critical enterprise platforms that underpin essential business applications across the state.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join a high-performing Application Hosting team responsible for the administration, optimisation and continuous improvement of Windows, SQL and web hosting environments. This is an excellent opportunity to work across modern hybrid infrastructure, cloud platforms and automation technologies while contributing to strategic infrastructure initiatives.

The Role

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing enterprise hosting platforms whilst leading improvements across system performance, reliability and operational efficiency.

You will be responsible for:

- Administration and support of Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS and web hosting environments
- Managing and maintaining Active Directory, Group Policy and identity services
- Supporting Azure and AWS infrastructure including virtual machines, databases and cloud services
- Monitoring, patching, deployments and operational support across enterprise environments
- Developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts, Azure Runbooks, Terraform code and GitHub Actions
- Troubleshooting and resolving system and application hosting issues
- Producing and maintaining operational, procedural and design documentation
- Leading infrastructure upgrades, migrations and technology improvement initiatives
- Providing technical mentorship and guidance to junior team members
- Contributing to strategic planning and adoption of emerging technologies

About You

To be successful in this role,



you will demonstrate:

- Strong experience administering Microsoft server technologies including Windows Server, SQL Server and IIS
- Advanced PowerShell scripting skills with experience in automation, error handling and complex logic
- Experience working with GitHub and version control practices
- Knowledge of Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a team environment

Highly Regarded

Experience with any of the following will be highly advantageous:

- Terraform
- CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Git workflows and automation
- Azure SQL PaaS and SQL Managed Instances
- Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect certification
- AWS Solutions Architect certification

Working Arrangements

- Hybrid model with a minimum of 50% attendance onsite per fortnight
- Team anchor days are Monday and Friday
- Participation in an operational roster during business hours
- Occasional after-hours maintenance activities
- Participation in a rotating on-call roster
