Position Information

Westdale Public School is situated within the Peel Network in Tamworth NSW, on the land of the Kamilaroi people. The school has an enrolment of 380 students and are enrolled in 17 classes, including a behaviour support class and two multi-categorical support classes. Our community is diverse, with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students comprising close to 50% of enrolments and 13% of students identifying as having English as an additional language or dialect. In December 2025, our Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) was 140 compared to the state average of 100. Within this community the school enjoys an outstanding reputation, being well known for feeling welcoming and inclusive.

We have invested heavily in student success. Our attractive, spacious, modern facilities, are equipped with educational resources that are amongst the most comprehensive in the region. Students benefit from a large number of support staff, a range of Information and Communication Technologies, literacy and numeracy resources and a wide variety of sporting and recreation equipment.

Our comprehensive student learning and support program ensures all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 have opportunities to improve their literacy and numeracy. The Positive Behaviour for Learning core values of being secure, proud and having high expectations make school wide expectations explicit and consistent across all settings. We acknowledge and celebrate student success in all areas.

Westdale Public School continues to forge strong partnerships with community groups. We have programs in student leadership, student welfare, creative arts, sport, cultural and environmental education.

In 2027, the Assistant Principal will work as part of the school leadership team along with the Principal, Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction and 3 other Assistant Principals. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching a mainstream class, leading a stage and supervising teaching and non-teaching staff.

General Selection Criteria

- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

- In addition to the general selection criteria,



approval to teach infants and/or primary
- A proven capacity to work and lead collaboratively as part of a team and effectively balance the dual role of an exemplary teacher and the diverse responsibilities of an Assistant Principal.
- Deep understanding of instructional leadership, and data analysis, with proven ability in mentoring staff and leading high-impact professional learning.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to an equitable education, with the capacity to lead the implementation of culturally responsive and high-quality wellbeing programs that meet the need of all learners and collaboratively build meaningful relationships with all key stakeholders.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
