Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers
Kwinana Beach
We are seeking a capable and curious Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer to join our Asset Integrity team as a Reliability Engineer – Electrical & Instrumentation at our Kwinana operations.
This role is well suited to someone with strong E&I; technical fundamentals who wants to build a career in reliability engineering. Prior reliability engineering experience is desirable but not essential. What matters most is your ability to understand electrical and instrumentation systems, work with complex data, identify patterns and risks, and turn analysis into practical improvement actions.
You will support the reliability, availability and lifecycle performance of critical electrical and instrumentation assets across WesCEF’s Kwinana operations. You will work closely with maintenance, operations, engineering, inspection and project teams to manage asset lifecycle, improve asset performance, reduce failures and strengthen maintenance strategies.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Apply strong E&I; engineering knowledge to assess asset performance, failure trends and improvement opportunities.
- Analyse maintenance, inspection, condition monitoring and operational data to identify reliability risks and recurring issues.
- Use tools such as Excel, Power BI, PI/plant historian systems, CMMS data and other digital platforms to convert data into practical insights.
- Support the development and improvement of maintenance strategies for electrical and instrumentation assets, including motors, drives, switchboards, protection systems, control valves, field instruments, analysers and associated control systems.
- Participate in root cause analysis, defect elimination and reliability improvement investigations.
- Review asset histories, failure modes and maintenance effectiveness to recommend practical improvements.
- Support condition monitoring and testing programs such as thermography, partial discharge testing, motor testing, instrument calibration performance reviews and control loop performance analysis.
- Work with stakeholders to communicate asset risks, performance trends and recommended improvement actions.
- Provide input into capital projects,
asset lifecycle planning and equipment improvement initiatives.
- Build reliability engineering capability through structured learning, mentoring and practical application on site.
About You
A reliability engineering background is not essential for this role. We are looking for someone with strong E&I; fundamentals, a structured problem-solving mindset and the ability to work confidently with technical and operational data.
You will bring:
- A tertiary qualification or higher in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical and/or instrumentation systems in an industrial environment.
- Practical knowledge of assets such as HV/LV distribution, motors, drives, protection systems, control valves, field instrumentation, analysers, PLC/DCS interfaces or process control systems.
- Advanced data-handling capability, including the ability to extract, clean, analyse and interpret large data sets.
- Strong Excel skills; experience with Power BI, Power Query, SQL, Python, PI/plant historian systems or CMMS reporting will be highly regarded.
- The ability to identify patterns in data and translate them into clear engineering recommendations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn reliability engineering principles, including failure modes, RCA, defect elimination and maintenance strategy optimisation.
- A sound understanding of electrical safety, statutory compliance and engineering risk management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with operations, maintenance and engineering stakeholders.
- Curiosity, initiative and a continuous-improvement mindset.
Chartered Engineer status is not essential. If successful, WesCEF will support your career development,
including progression toward chartered status where appropriate.
