About The Role

- Ensure Child Safe Policies are adhered to and immediately bring to the attention of the SWECC Team Leader any concerns identified in relation to safety of children.
- Give continuous attention to the physical and emotional needs of the children in the household.
- Involve the children with as many home-based activities as possible, paying attention to the routine of the household.
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times, in line with MacKillop policy.
- Communicate to the Team Leader any problems encountered while working within the family situation.
- Apply the principles of OHS as prescribed in MacKillop Family Services policy and procedure documentation.
- Report all incidents and accidents as soon as possible to the Team Leader.
- Ensure that session notes are recorded on Family Journey accurately and in a timely manner as per policy.
- Ensure sound communication with the Team Leader regarding session times and contact arrangements with clients.
- Where appropriate and agreed, link families into resources in the community.
- Positively and professionally represent the organisation in the sector and wider community at all times.
- Attend to any other duties specified and as agreed between the Team Leader and the parents of the family concerned, ensuring that such duties meet the needs of the children and do not disrupt established household routines (e.g. taking children to school or day care, meal preparation, provision of clean clothes etc).

This is a Casual opportunity based in the Southwest Region, WA within our Southwest Emergency Care for Children (SWECC) Program. The position reports to the SWECC Team Leader.

Key Selection Criteria

- A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.




- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable and at-risk families and children to address practical issues within a home, including the emergency care of children.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to participate collaboratively and constructively within teams of peers, staff and other stakeholders, as well as initiative and effective personal judgement when working alone.
- Capacity to engage constructively and respectfully with individuals of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities and genders, to achieve agreed family outcomes.

You Must Have a

- Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop);
- Valid Employee Working with Children Check;
- Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check (for risk assessed / client facing roles). MacKillop can assist successful candidates with their application.
