THE ROLE
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated Fire Service Technician to join our team.
The purpose of this role is to support Alcan Fire Safety’s commitment to protecting people, property, and businesses by ensuring fire protection systems are properly maintained, compliant, and fully operational.
The Fire Service Technician plays a key role in delivering reliable, high-quality fire safety services across Western Australia by inspecting, testing, servicing, and assisting with the installation of fire protection equipment in line with AS1851 and Australian Standards.
Through hands‑on technical work and professional client interaction, this role helps ensure customers remain compliant, prepared, and protected, while upholding the company’s values of Safety, Integrity, and Service Excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform inspection, testing,
and maintenance of fire protection equipment in accordance with AS1851
- Service and maintain portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, hydrants, fire blankets, and associated equipment
- Conduct basic fault finding, repairs, and replacement of fire protection components
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of fire protection equipment
- Identify and report system faults, compliance issues, or potential fire risks
- Complete accurate service reports, test sheets, and compliance documentation
- Liaise professionally with clients, site representatives, and other trades
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures, safety requirements, and industry standards
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and service vehicles in good condition
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and organised work environment.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Customer service focussed: Committed to providing exceptional service across all channels – written, phone and face to face.
- Fire protection experience: Demonstrated experience working with portable fire equipment and/or fire protection systems.
- Compliance knowledge: Understanding of fire safety servicing requirements, including AS1851 and relevant Australian Standards.
- Technical capability: Experience conducting inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on fire protection equipment.
- Communication:
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, site representatives, and team members.
- Autonomy: Ability to work independently, manage workloads, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Problem solving: Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify faults and implement effective solutions.
- Industry experience: Experience with fire hydrants, hose reels, extinguishers, and fire pumps will be highly regarded.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Current Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Demonstrated experience working with dry fire systems
- Sound understanding of AS1851 and relevant Australian Standards
- Reliable, punctual, and professional with a strong work ethic
