Help make safety practical, visible and shared
Relationships Australia WA is strengthening its Quality Team to provide integrated leadership and support across quality, practice governance, organisational risk, assurance and work health and safety.
Our Practice Governance Lead and one Quality Practice Partner have been appointed, and we are now recruiting several roles that will complete the team’s core capability.
We are seeking a practical and engaging Work Health and Safety Officer to support the development and operation of RAWA’s organisation‑wide WHS management system.
About the role
The WHS Officer will work in partnership with leaders, employees, People and Culture, and health and safety representatives to strengthen safety systems across RAWA’s metropolitan and regional services.
The position will support both physical and psychological health and safety. It will help the organisation identify hazards, assess risks, implement effective controls, meet its consultation obligations and learn from incidents and emerging safety issues.
The role is focused on WHS prevention, systems, consultation and assurance. Injury management, workers compensation and return‑to‑work case management are not included in the position and will continue to be managed through People and Culture.
Key responsibilities
You will:
- support the development and implementation of RAWA’s WHS management system;
- provide practical WHS advice to leaders and employees;
- coordinate hazard identification and WHS risk‑assessment processes;
- support the identification and management of psychosocial hazards;
- coordinate workplace inspections, consultation activities and corrective actions;
- support health and safety representatives and WHS consultation arrangements;
- monitor WHS incidents, hazards,
trends and outstanding actions;
- help ensure notifiable incidents and significant safety matters are appropriately escalated;
- contribute to WHS reporting for leaders, Executive and governance committees;
- support WHS audits, reviews and assurance activities;
- coordinate relevant WHS information, education and awareness activities;
- maintain WHS registers, records and evidence;
- work with People and Culture where safety matters intersect with employee wellbeing, conduct or injury management; and
- support a culture in which safety is understood as a shared organisational responsibility.
About you
You will bring:
- a relevant WHS qualification, such as a Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety, or an equivalent qualification;
- practical experience supporting WHS systems and risk‑management activities;
- working knowledge of contemporary WHS legislation and duties;
- the ability to translate legal and technical requirements into clear workplace practices;
- experience supporting consultation, incident review and corrective‑action processes;
- strong communication and relationship‑building skills;
- confidence working with employees and leaders across different roles and locations;
- sound documentation and reporting skills; and
- the ability to approach sensitive safety matters with care, objectivity and appropriate confidentiality.
Experience with psychosocial hazards or within community services, health, human services or another people‑centred environment will be highly regarded.
What will help you succeed
You will see WHS as more than policies, forms and incident statistics. You will be interested in how work is actually performed and able to help people develop controls that are both compliant and workable.
You will be comfortable working across organisational boundaries while maintaining explicit accountability for WHS advice, monitoring and escalation.
