Fire Operations Officer

Overview

This is a permanent, full‑time position based in Manjimup or Pemberton in the Warren Region. The region includes D’Entrecasteaux and Walpole Nornalup national parks, Walpole Wilderness area, Walpole Nornalup Inlets Marine Park, and significant areas of state forest.

The landscape features coastal heath, tall karri forests, open jarrah and wandoo woodlands, remnant tingle forest, wetlands of international and national significance, pristine estuaries and wild rivers.

Key service deliverables are nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, and fire management.

Responsibilities

- Plan, organise, train and implement fire management programs and operations, including prescribed burning and bushfire preparedness, within the Donnelly district.
- Participate actively in departmental prescribed burning and bushfire suppression operations.
- Monitor and manage the District GIS database.
- Liaise with community, key stakeholders and community groups in a positive and informed manner.
- Undertake projects as directed by the District Fire Coordinator and District Manager.

Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated operational experience in the management of fire‑related activities, including fire suppression procedures, liaison with other firefighting and emergency organisations, planning and implementing prescribed burning programmes.
- Evidence of well‑developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills and experience in leading and managing teams, including preparing and implementing works programmes, scheduling work, setting goals, controlling and reviewing progress, and managing volunteers and contractors.
- Experience in using fire management as a land management tool to achieve biodiversity conservation, and park and forest management outcomes.
- Evidence of ability to use computer software (including GPS, GIS and software such as Arc View or equivalent)



for data management and report writing and applying financial management skills to budget preparation and expenditure control and monitoring.

Eligibility

- Australian, New Zealand, Australian permanent residency, or a valid working visa.
- Current (issue date not older than 6 months) satisfactory National Police Check.
- Current Western Australian "C" class driver’s licence.
