Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Education Limited (CACGEL) operates in the ACT and NSW, supporting 56 schools and nine early learning centres (ELCs).

The Archdiocesan Schools Office provides a range of services to the system through four directorates including Faith in Learning, School Operations, Corporate Services and Governance and Strategy.

About The Role

The Catholic Curriculum and Teaching Lead position supports the overall mission of CACGEL, which is to spread the Valuable News of Jesus Christ through integral human development of students. The role is critical to the successful execution of the 2027‑2033 CACGEL Apostolic Action Plan, Grounded in Faith, Growing in Service, formally launched on 20 August. At the heart of this plan is faith formation of staff, necessary to ensure that "faith is the breath that oxygenates all other subjects" in the curriculum.

The role is directly responsible to the Deputy Executive Director, Faith in Learning. The Faith in Learning directorate, created by bringing together the Catholic Identity Team and the Teaching and Learning Team, supports a specifically Catholic approach to teaching and learning – a "Catholic Curriculum".

The Catholic Curriculum and Teaching Lead is tasked to lead the development and implementation of the multi‑year Catholic Curriculum project, INSIGHT, and to ensure schools are supported to embed the evidence‑based high‑impact teaching practices introduced through the CATALYST program.

Working with school and curriculum leaders,



the Lead will develop a curriculum framework that situates the curriculum within the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, linking all knowledge to an understanding of God. Two experienced principals will serve as INSIGHT Engagement Principals, focusing on working with curriculum leaders to build momentum from the ground up.

The Lead will also collaborate across service areas and with the four regional Assistant Directors to help schools achieve the best possible educational outcomes for students, ensure schools are supported in their professional learning needs, and in the implementation of the Catholic Curriculum. The role will work closely with the School and Family Services team to assist schools with students who may have trouble accessing the curriculum.

In addition, the Lead will evaluate and build on the curricula and pedagogical reforms of the CATALYST program, incorporating research on how the mind acquires knowledge to promote best practice in learning and teaching. The Lead will ensure the design and implementation of assessment procedures that elicit actionable evidence of learning across all subject areas, and will lead and implement system‑wide professional learning in all subject areas, particularly Religious Education and Mathematics.

A knowledge of the Catholic Social Tradition and Catholic Intellectual Tradition is essential, as is a demonstrated understanding of, capacity to learn from, and willingness to apply the work of scholars in the field of Catholic education.



The capacity to form partnerships with outside agencies, including tertiary institutions locally and overseas, is essential.

Qualifications And Eligibility

- Post graduate qualifications in Education
- Practicing Catholic connected to a worshipping parish, supported by a Parish Priest reference
- Accreditation in accordance with Work Teach and Lead in Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn policy
- Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration and Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Current Drivers Licence
