headspace Gawler

As a Peer Support Worker, you'll use your own lived experience of mental health challenges and/or substance use recovery to walk alongside young people as they navigate life's toughest moments.

About the Role

As a Peer Support Worker, you'll provide recovery-oriented, person-centred support to young people aged 12–25 years accessing headspace Gawler services.



You will help young people build confidence, strengthen their identity beyond mental health challenges, connect with supports, and take meaningful steps towards their personal goals.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll bring the unique perspective of lived experience to help foster hope, empowerment and choice.

Part-Time | 0.6 FTE

What You'll Be Doing

- Building trusting, authentic relationships with young people.
- Providing one‑on‑one peer support and recovery‑focused conversations.
- Supporting access, intake and referrals to appropriate services.
- Helping young people identify goals and navigate community supports.
- Co‑facilitating groups, wellbeing programs and peer‑led activities.
- Advocating for young people's voices to be heard in their care.
- Working collaboratively with clinicians and community stakeholders.
- Contributing to a culture of recovery‑oriented and person‑centred practice.

About You

You understand that recovery looks different for everyone.

You have lived experience of mental health challenges and/or substance use and are at a stage in your recovery where you can confidently and safely support others in theirs. You bring empathy, resilience,



authenticity and a genuine belief in young people's potential.

You’ll ideally have:

- Lived experience of mental illness and/or substance use recovery.
- Experience supporting young people in community, mental health or peer settings.
- A strengths‑based, trauma‑informed and person‑centred approach.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- A qualification (or willingness to obtain one) in Peer Work, Mental Health, Community Services, AOD, Welfare or a related field.
