Harwood Marine (Polaris Marine Dockyards) is a key division within our group, operating a 3,000T slipway and a 440T travel lift. We support a wide range of services, including vessel maintenance, refits, and marine salvage & disposal.

About the Role

We are on the look-out for a seasoned Accountant, to assume a newly created role of Management Accountant on location in Harwood, Yamba, NSW.

This role will support the financial and operational performance of the Company through project cost control, management and analysis of operating expenses and daily project tracking.

The Company has embarked on a revamp and digitalisation of core systems. Xero has been introduced as the accounting module, dedicated payroll and accounts payable solutions have been implemented, and an inventory and project cost solution is currently being introduced.

With the software systems brought in, the chance exists for the successful candidate to lead the delivery of management accounting outputs to key internal stakeholders.

As a key member of the management team, the Management Accountant will also take on important administrative matters,



supported by an Administrative Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

- Support project managers with job forecasting and financial tracking on projects, ensuring the accurate input of all costs, including inhouse labour, materials and external costs
- Manage WIP (Work in Progress) reporting, analyse project performance and profit margins
- Assisting the commercial and tendering team with pricing accuracy and cost analysis, reviewing supplier pricing, labour allocations and project costings
- Oversee the Inventory Management System being introduced and ensure timely and accurate costing of inventory into projects, take leadership of regular stock counts
- Ongoing analysis and reporting of budget variances across the P&L;, with detailed analysis of gross margins on all projects
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and improvements to financial discipline, assist with systems/process improvements as the business grows
- Detailed monthly reconciliation of gross margin on all projects to the financial accounts
- Collaborate with the Group finance team in Sydney to support the expedited close out of monthly financial statements




- Take leadership in the identification and implementation of internal controls and procedures for the business including in the areas of procurement, supplier selection and inventory management. Make recommendations regarding the introduction of internal audits in select key business functions

About You

- Tertiary qualified in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
- CPA or CA qualification or currently working towards completion
- Ideally construction or engineering related with experience in project cost management
- Demonstrated experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting in a similar role.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret financial results and identify key business drivers. Advanced Excel skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy across reconciliations, reporting and financial controls.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, and business partnering skills across finance and ops teams.
- Ability to work independently, use sound judgement and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Collaborative approach, with flexibility to support broader finance team responsibilities when required.
