WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
A genuine Shopify specialist with commercial theme-development experience who cares about how the website helps customers choose, trust and buy.
A proactive problem-solver and executor who can take an approved idea from brief to clean, tested release.
A collaborative professional who can contribute experience, challenge an approach constructively, and then get the right work over the line.
────────────────────────
NEED TO KNOW
Competitive Salary: $85,000 - $105,000 + Super, based on experience.
Location: Ormeau, Gold Coast QLD. This is a full time, primarily in office role.
Role Focus: Shopify theme development, storefront ownership and e-commerce optimisation from day one.
Team Discounts: Save up to 50% on products we stock.
A Genuine Growth Path: Start by helping launch our Shopify store, then grow into analytics-led optimisation, Al workflows, internal tools, and new digital sales channels.
Tools: Shopify and Google Workspace are central, with modern Al development tools such as Codex, Cursor or Claude Code used where they genuinely improve your workflow.
Work Rights: You must already have unrestricted Australian working rights. Sponsorship is not available for this role.
────────────────────────
ABOUT THE ROLE
Substantial work has already gone into a highly customised Roam Gear Shopify store. We are now looking for someone with the technical judgement and follow-through to help finish the important work, get the store ready to launch, and then champion it as a sales channel that keeps improving.
Your first focus will include completing product-page implementation and conditional logic, refining theme code, building customer-facing features such as an order-tracking page, and safely rolling out approved website changes, features and integrations.
You will work directly with our Director and Digital Manager, alongside design and marketing. We will provide commercial priorities, structure, copy, design assets and briefs. We want you to bring the Shopify experience needed to turn them into robust, responsive experiences - and to speak up when you see a better, safer or more effective approach.
We use development or preview themes and a clear approval path. At first,
live-theme changes will require Director approval. Once you have shown sound judgement and reliable execution, you will have room to publish routine, low-risk improvements independently.
────────────────────────
HOW THE ROLE GROWS
Phase One - Launch: Finish launch-critical theme and product-page work, implement approved customer journeys, and help us release the store with confidence.
After Launch - Ownership and Optimisation: Own ongoing catalogue, product, variant, metafield, collection, navigation and merchandising updates, with support from team members who already know these areas. Use Shopify Analytics and captured data to identify, implement and assess improvements.
Over Time - New Digital Ground: Explore AI workflows, lightweight internal applications and new commerce channels such as Cin7 B2B, eBay and Amazon alongside the wider digital team.
Once the foundations are strong, you won't be stuck making the same small theme edits forever. We want you to help us explore what comes next.
────────────────────────
THE DAY-TO-DAY
Implement and improve Shopify theme code using Liquid, HTML, responsive CSS and JavaScript.
Build and refine product pages, sections, blocks, templates, conditional logic and customer-facing features.
Maintain products, variants, metafields, collections, navigation and merchandising as the store moves into ongoing operation.
Prepare changes in development or preview themes, test them across devices and key customer journeys, and maintain a safe rollback path.
Install, configure and validate Shopify apps, integrations, native features and new sales-channel capabilities.
Use Shopify Analytics and practical data capture to understand what is working and where the storefront can improve.
Use tools such as Codex or Claude responsibly where they improve speed or quality, while remaining accountable for every change you release.
────────────────────────
ABOUT YOU
You have around 3+ years of hands-on commercial Shopify theme-development experience, or equivalent demonstrated capability.
You can show us 2-3 live Shopify stores and clearly explain exactly what you personally built or changed.
You are strong in Shopify Liquid, HTML and responsive CSS, with enough JavaScript to read, troubleshoot and safely modify dynamic theme behaviour.
You understand Online Store 2.0, JSON templates and schema, sections, blocks, snippets, metafields, app blocks, and product, variant and cart behaviour.
You are comfortable using development or preview themes, version control, structured testing and rollback practices.
You can take an approved brief through implementation, QA and release with minimal supervision once you understand the business.
You bring proactive problem-solving and robust execution, communicate clearly, and can challenge an idea respectfully when a better option exists.
Degrees and Shopify certifications are optional. Agency or in-house experience is ideal. Demonstrated capability and execution matters most.
────────────────────────
NICE TO HAVE
- Proficiency in Klaviyo Flows and / or basic EDM template creation.
- Conversion-rate optimisation using GA4 or broader e-commerce analytics experience.
- Experience with AI-assisted development, lightweight applications, APIs or automation.
- Experience with Cin7 B2B, eBay, Amazon or other multichannel commerce platforms.
- Camping, outdoor or 12V product knowledge.
────────────────────────
WE'RE KEEN TO SEE YOUR SHOPIFY WORK!
Please include links to 2-3 live Shopify stores and tell us exactly what you personally built or changed on each. We care more about what you owned and what you enjoyed about the project.
Finalists may be invited to complete a short paid practical assessment using fictional work, followed by a walkthrough of their approach.

OUR STORY
Roam Gear started small but soon grew beyond just being a brand. It became a community built on authentic conversations, lasting friendships, off-grid living and a shared love of travel and the outdoors.
We believe nature has a way of recharging the soul. Our mission is to help customers stay out there long enough to feel it. By simplifying off-grid living, we help more people say yes to that extra night under the stars, that morning coffee with a view, or that spontaneous detour off the beaten track.
The freedom to stay. That's what we create. That's what inspires us.
