Senior Data Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support and maintain enterprise data assets across cloud and enterprise data warehouse environments within a large Federal Government program.
This role will focus on operational data delivery, maintaining and improving data pipelines, month-end processing and ensuring the stability and quality of business-critical data services.
Contract details
- Initial 12-month contract with a further 12-month extension option
- Open market hourly rates
- Locations available in Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra
The opportunity
Working closely with business and technical teams, you will develop, maintain and optimise enterprise data pipelines, ETL processes and analytical code. You will lead technical activities from requirements analysis through to deployment and ongoing operational support.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and optimise enterprise data pipelines and ETL processes
- Develop SQL analytical and ETL code supporting enterprise reporting and analytics
- Tune and optimise SQL code to improve performance and efficiency
- Support daily data delivery, month-end processing and data-related requests
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions and data assets
- Lead technical implementation activities from analysis through to deployment
- Conduct peer reviews of code,
data models and technical designs
- Maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries and implementation artefacts
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, testers and support teams
- Contribute to backlog prioritisation, delivery planning and continuous improvement
- Support knowledge transfer and capability uplift across the team
About you
- Australian Citizenship is mandatory to work for this federal government body
- Current NV1 AGSVA Clearance
- Demonstrated experience developing and supporting enterprise data warehouse and data integration solutions
- Strong SQL development, optimisation, tuning and code review experience
- Technical capability across at least two of MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift or Databricks
- Programming experience using SQL and languages such as Python, SAS, R or Java
- Ability to interpret and apply data models, technical specifications and solution designs
- Experience working within DevOps environments, including version control and software delivery practices
- Solid communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience with AWS data technologies such as S3 and Glue, metadata-driven development frameworks, SAS, enterprise reporting platforms or Agile delivery environments will be highly regarded.
