Wabubadda Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) is seeking an experienced and motivated Ranger Coordinator to lead the delivery of the IRP Jirrbal Ranger Program on Jirrbal Country.

Jirrbal Country is located around the townships of Millstream, Ravenshoe, Tumoulin and Herberton. It includes approximately 92,003 hectares of native title area declared in four separate determinations.

Jirrbal Country includes an array of ecosystem types including dense tropical rainforest, coastal mountains, savannah woodland, eucalypt forest, grassy rangelands and freshwater rivers and lagoons. Wetlands, rivers and gorges hold particular significance and very important physical features of Country. They hold high value resources for subsistence as well as cultural and social values. This is more than a coordination role. It is an opportunity to work alongside Jirrbal Traditional Owners to protect, manage and strengthen Jirrbal Country. You will play a key role in supporting cultural authority, environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability outcomes.

We are looking for someone who understands that ranger work is both practical and cultural. Someone who can lead a team on the ground, manage reporting and compliance obligations, and build strong working relationships with partners — while respecting the cultural responsibilities that sit at the heart of this program.

The ranger program will deliver:

- Fire management and land management activities

- Weed, pest and feral animal control

- Fencing and infrastructure maintenance

- Species and area surveys

- Cultural heritage protection

- Intergenerational knowledge transfer

- Joint management and compliance activities with QPWS and other partners

The Ranger Coordinator will ensure that annual work plans are delivered effectively, reporting obligations are met, and the ranger team is supported to carry out meaningful, safe and well-coordinated work on Country.

While the role is Ravenshoe-based there is flexibility to reside on the Atherton Tablelands with regular travel to Jirrbal Country essential.

About the Role

As Ranger Coordinator, you will:

- Coordinate the IRP Program with WAC Management

- Lead and supervise a team of indigenous Rangers

- Coordinate annual, monthly and daily work plans

- Deliver on IPA and Indigenous Ranger Program reporting requirements

- Oversee on-Country activities including fire, fencing, weed and pest management

- Support cultural heritage protection and knowledge management

- Maintain accurate data recording systems

- Liaise with QPWS, the Board, Elders’ Advisory Committee and other external stakeholders

- Ensure compliance with WHS requirements

- This role combines team leadership,



environmental management, cultural stewardship and program coordination.

About You

You will demonstrate:

- Experience in conservation, land management or ranger programs.

- Understanding of cultural heritage management and working on Country

- Proven team leadership or supervisory experience

- Strong organisational and reporting skills

- Experience working with First Nations communities and organisations

- Ability to work autonomously and in remote environments

- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability

Essential Requirements

- Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence

- Minimum Certificate III In Conservation and Ecosystem Management or equivalent is highly desired

- High level of computer literacy skills in Office and proficient use of basic mapping platforms such as Google Earth, NAFI and Qld Globe, and field-based GPS applications

- Experience driving 4WD vehicles in rough and off-road conditions

- Experience working on country or in remote locations and complying with Cultural protocols

- Minimum one (1) years experience in a similar management role

- ACDC Agriculture Chemical Licence or willingness to obtain

- CPR Certificate (HLTAID009) and First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) or willingness to obtain

- First Aid in Remote Situations (HLTAID013) or willingness to obtain

- Advanced First Aid Certificate (HLTAID014) or willingness to obtain.
