Position Description Senior Automotive Technician / Workshop Supervisor

Location: JAX Tyres & Auto Warilla
Employment Type: Full Time
Reports To: Franchisee / Workshop Manager

Position Overview

The Senior Automotive Technician / Workshop Supervisor is responsible for delivering high-quality vehicle servicing, repairs, diagnostics, registration inspections, and air conditioning services while assisting in the management of daily workshop operations. The role requires strong leadership, customer service, mentoring, and organisational skills to ensure the workshop operates efficiently, safely, and profitably.

The successful candidate will lead by example, maintain exceptional workmanship standards, support and develop workshop staff, and ensure customers receive professional service and advice.

Key Responsibilities Automotive Repairs & Inspections

- Diagnose, service, maintain, and repair a wide range of vehicles.
- Perform vehicle registration (Rego) inspections in accordance with NSW regulations.
- Conduct advanced fault finding and diagnostic procedures.
- Perform air conditioning testing, servicing, repairs, and refrigerant handling in accordance with licensing requirements.
- Ensure all work is completed to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.

Workshop Management

- Assist with the daily management and coordination of workshop operations.
- Allocate work effectively to technicians and apprentices to maximise productivity.
- Monitor job progress and workshop efficiency.
- Manage workload priorities to meet customer expectations and business requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.

Customer Service

- Provide exceptional customer service and technical advice.
- Communicate repairs, maintenance requirements, and recommendations clearly to customers.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through professional and honest service.
- Assist in resolving customer concerns and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Quoting & Sales Support

- Prepare accurate and professional repair and maintenance quotations.




- Recommend additional services where appropriate to improve vehicle safety and reliability.
- Assist customers in understanding repair options and costs.
- Support achievement of workshop sales and profitability targets.

Leadership & Mentoring

- Mentor, coach, and support apprentices and fellow technicians.
- Provide technical guidance and training to workshop staff.
- Foster a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous development.
- Lead by example in professionalism, safety, and quality workmanship.

Quality Control

- Conduct final quality control inspections on completed work.
- Ensure all repairs and services meet company, manufacturer, and regulatory standards.
- Identify and address workmanship issues proactively.
- Maintain a strong focus on first-time fix rates and customer satisfaction.

Safety & Compliance

- Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
- Conduct work in accordance with relevant legislation, industry regulations, and company standards.
- Ensure workshop equipment and tools are maintained in safe working condition.

Parts Ordering & Inventory Management

- Order parts, consumables, and workshop supplies as required.
- Maintain effective relationships with suppliers.
- Monitor stock levels and minimise downtime due to unavailable parts.
- Verify parts received are correct and suitable for scheduled repairs.

Record Keeping & Administration

- Complete all job cards, inspection reports, and service documentation accurately.
- Maintain vehicle inspection records and regulatory paperwork.




- Ensure all workshop records are retained and filed in accordance with business and legislative requirements.
- Assist with maintaining accurate customer and vehicle service histories.

Working Hours & Availability

- Full-time position.
- Prepared to work every second weekend as part of a rotating roster.
- Flexibility to work additional hours when required to meet operational needs.

Skills & Experience Essential

- Qualified Automotive Technician / Motor Mechanic.
- Demonstrated experience in vehicle diagnostics, servicing, and repairs.
- Current NSW Authorised Examiner accreditation (or ability to obtain and maintain).
- Solid customer service and communication skills.
- Experience preparing quotations and estimating repair costs.
- Proven ability to mentor and support other technicians.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Current Australian Driver Licence.

Desirable

- ARCtick Refrigerant Handling Licence.
- Previous workshop supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience within a franchise automotive service environment.
- Knowledge of workshop management systems and digital record keeping.
