Where you'll be working

Join our CAMHS Youth Transition Service, located in the local Adult Mental Health Service and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people as they transition from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to adult mental health services. There are two positions on offer, with one working across the Hunter Valley and Manning regions, and the other across the Lake Macquarie region. In the position you will play a vital role in supporting young people to remain engaged with mental health services during this important transition. You will provide care coordination, consultation and clinical support, working collaboratively with young people, their families and carers, Adult Mental Health Services, CAMHS, government agencies and community partners to ensure coordinated, recovery‑oriented care.

The Prospect

Your day‑to‑day work will include managing referrals, participating in multidisciplinary and interagency meetings, providing consultation to clinicians, and delivering short‑term transition support and care coordination. You will report to the CAMHS Manager of Special Programs and the local Adult Mental Health Service Manager and be well supported by the Youth Engagement Specialist Mental Health team and experienced clinicians within Adult Mental Health Services. This position is suited to an experienced clinician with a sound understanding of both child, adolescent and adult mental health services. You will have demonstrated experience working with young people, families and carers, and a strong understanding of the impact of mental health concerns on young people. You will be confident working autonomously while also thriving as part of a multidisciplinary team, with excellent communication, collaboration and care coordination skills. Requirements

Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Clin Psychology/clin psych in training, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health, Djirruwang Program), Nutrition and Dietetics which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. For a CNS2: relevant post‑registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of a post‑graduate qualification. Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.

Essential Selection Criteria

Extensive contemporary experience and knowledge of mental health practice, as well as demonstrated understanding of the principles of trauma informed care and its application when working with children/adolescents and families/carers in a mental health context/environment. Demonstrated understanding and clinical experience in providing timely, community evidence‑based assessment and short‑term treatment for children and/or adolescents and their families when presenting in with complex needs and in mental health crisis. Evidence of ability to build and maintain cooperative professional and therapeutic relationships with children/ young people and their parents /guardians and key stakeholders through the application of well‑developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
