The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for an Assistant Farm Manager to be part of our SARDI Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

Join the Loxton Research Centre and contribute to innovative horticultural and farming systems research in a hands-on operational role. You will provide skilled technical assistance and support across cropping, research, demonstration, and extension activities.

Working within a dynamic team, you’ll support a modern farming operation focused on demonstrating best practice horticulture and trialling emerging technologies to deliver high-quality research outcomes across the Riverland and broader South Australia.

How you’ll make a difference

As Assistant Farm Manager, you will:

- Support seasonal farm operations including sowing, spraying and harvest
- Assist with research activities through establishing, monitoring, sampling and data collection
- Maintain farm operations, including machinery, infrastructure and irrigation systems
- Build effective working relationships with researchers, community and industry stakeholders
- Contribute to efficient operations through supervision of the workshop and farm, ensuring labour, tools, materials and equipment are available
- Maintain up to date knowledge and skills in horticulture, including crop management issues including disease, pests, and weeds.
- Support continuous improvement through the adoption of leading-edge farming technology (AgTech)

- Practical skills and ability to apply knowledge of farming practices in horticultural operations and research
- A positive, adaptable mindset and willingness to implement recent technologies




- Strong attention to detail with a focus on high-quality work and accurate recordkeeping
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Commitment to safe work practices and meeting work health and safety obligations
- A current Chemcert Certificate and knowledge of agricultural chemicals

Requirements

- Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive.
- Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel will be required.
- Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
- You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

Remuneration

OPS3 - $74,095 min - $78,694 max per annum, plus superannuation
