As a Plastic Extrusion Operator, your responsibilities will include:
- Setting up, starting and operating rigid and flexible extrusion machines
- Installing and changing dies, tooling and associated equipment
- Setting and adjusting machine temperatures, speeds, pressures and cooling conditions
- Monitoring production lines to maintain consistent product quality
- Measuring finished products and checking them against drawings and specifications
- Operating downstream equipment, including cooling tanks, haul-offs, cutters, saws and winders
- Loading raw materials, masterbatch and regrind according to production requirements
- Identifying and correcting extrusion faults, surface defects and dimensional issues
- Completing production records, quality checks and job paperwork
- Performing basic machine troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
- Minimising scrap, material waste and production downtime
- Keeping machines and work areas clean, safe and organised
- Following workplace health and safety procedures
- Working closely with supervisors, quality staff and other operators
To be considered, applicants must have:
- A minimum of two years’ plastic extrusion experience
- Experience operating both rigid and flexible extrusion lines
- The ability to independently set up, start and run an extrusion machine
- A basic understanding of common plastic materials and their processing requirements
- Experience changing dies and extrusion tooling
- Good mechanical and problem-solving skills
- Experience using verniers, gauges and other measuring equipment
- The ability to read drawings, job sheets and product specifications
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on quality
- A reliable, punctual and safety-focused attitude
- The ability to work independently and within a team
A forklift licence and previous experience working with PVC extrusion would be highly regarded.
