Officer Specialist School is a purpose‑built facility servicing the needs of students aged between 5-18 with diverse intellectual and associated disabilities. The school opened in 2014 and has grown rapidly, supporting primary and secondary education along with specialised spaces and programmes.

The learning community focuses on reflective and independent learners, offering a secure, responsive environment that encourages responsibility and positive relationships.

Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated high‑quality teaching skills and curriculum knowledge to implement individualized plans for students with intellectual disability.
- Advanced classroom teaching skills and collaborative work to continually improve teaching and learning.
- Ability to monitor and assess student learning data and use it to inform teaching strategies.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including programs for students with challenging behaviours.
- Knowledge and ability to develop and implement effective behaviour‑management programmes for students with challenging behaviours.
- Ability to plan and deliver a Performing Arts programme.

Role

The classroom teacher classification comprises Range 1 and Range 2. The primary focus is the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes, while engaging in critical reflection and inquiry to improve practice.

Teachers in Range 2 provide additional leadership by mentoring other teachers, supervising student teachers, and contributing to school‑wide professional learning.



They may also support school‑wide policy and strategy.

Teachers in Range 1 operate under general direction, focus on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice, and provide structured support for current entrants to the profession.

Responsibilities

- Direct teaching of student groups and individuals.
- Developing, implementing and evaluating a curriculum area or other curriculum program.
- Performing additional classroom‑related and organisational duties as directed.
- Participating in parent‑teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions.
- Undertaking supervisory duties as required.

Who May Apply

Registered or eligible teachers with the Victorian Institute of Teaching who are qualified to teach the specified curriculum area(s).

Qualification Requirements

- Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
- Completion of an Australian postgraduate‑level initial teaching program on or after 1 January 2024, and satisfaction of the accredited initial teacher education program requirements.
- Graduation from a Victorian ITE program after 1 July 2016 must include passing the literacy and numeracy test (LANTITE).
