Mental Health Clinician, Acute Care Team/Statewide Mental Health Telephone Access Line - Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time (through till October 2027)

Position Classification: Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Social Worker Level 1/2 and Occupational Therapist Level 1/2

Remuneration: $79,419.00 - $122,465.00 per annum, plus superannuation

Hours Per Week: 38

Location: Randwick, Sydney

Responsibilities

The role involves telephone triage and community‑based assessment and risk management of consumers with mental health concerns. The successful candidate will work as part of a 24‑hour, seven‑day a week rotating roster, providing point‑of‑care and contact for mental health consumers in the community through both the Acute Care Team and the State‑Wide Mental Health Telephone Access Line (SMHTAL).

Requirements

- Social Worker or Occupational Therapist qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award, current full registration with AHPRA and/or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Psychologist with a four‑year degree in psychology and registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA).
- Demonstrated core competency skills in mental health and drug & alcohol interventions in the community and experience in providing comprehensive mental health and drug & alcohol assessments.




- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery.
- Demonstrated experience working with people with an acute mental illness or disorder as well as problems associated with significant drug and alcohol use.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to exercise independent qualified judgement on routine matters, commensurate with years of experience.
- Demonstrated computer skills and the capacity to use health information systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and evidence‑based practice and a commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning.
- Current driver’s licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
