We are seeking an experienced Network Designer to join our Network Design team. In this role, you will translate customer and internal requirements into end-to-end, buildable, cost-effective, and standards-compliant network designs across IP/MPLS, Transmission, Fibre, and Radio domains.
You will produce high-quality design documentation, act as the technical point of contact throughout the order lifecycle, and collaborate closely with Planning, Provisioning, Build, and Project teams to ensure successful delivery of network services.
This role requires solid technical expertise across multiple network domains, excellent design judgment, and the ability to mentor junior designers.
Responsibilities
- Receive customer and internal orders from the Planning team, analyse requirements, scope, and feasibility before commencing design
- Produce end-to-end network designs that deliver buildable, cost-effective, and standards-compliant solutions
- Prepare and issue comprehensive design packs (HLD, LLD, schematics, bill of materials, and configuration templates) to Provisioning, CAD, and Field teams within agreed SLAs
- Validate network inventory, capacity, and route availability; raise augmentation requests where required
- Make informed design trade-off decisions on cost, resilience, lead time, and infrastructure reuse, documenting rationale clearly
- Ensure all designs meet engineering standards, customer SLA obligations, and diversity/resilience requirements
- Conduct peer reviews of designs and present own designs in design review forums for approval
- Serve as the technical point of contact for orders throughout their lifecycle, responding to queries from Provisioning, Build, CAD, and Project Management teams
- Investigate and resolve design-related issues during build or activation; issue design amendments as needed
- Maintain accurate as-designed and as-built records in inventory and design systems
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues, proposing standard design patterns, and updating templates and guidelines
- Mentor junior designers and share knowledge on new technologies, vendor platforms, and best practices
- Comply with workplace Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures at all times
- Actively contribute to process improvement initiatives and suggest enhancements to workflows and best practices
- Undertake any other duties and activities as requested by the line manager or as required by business needs
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science, or related engineering field
- Experience: 5–8+ years of hands‑on experience in network design within a telecom or service provider environment
Technical Skills
- Hands‑on design experience with major vendor platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, or Huawei)
- Strong expertise in Cisco Routing & Switching (IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR, Catalyst, Nexus, ASR/NCS)
- Solid knowledge of IP/MPLS technologies including OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, LDP, RSVP-TE, L2VPN/L3VPN, and QoS
- Transmission design experience across DWDM, OTN, and/or SDH (wavelength planning, link budgets, protection)
- Fibre network design including fibre selection, ODF/FDH allocation, and optical loss budgeting
- Diverse network design with true A/B path diversity across cables, joints, and conduits
- Radio network design knowledge (microwave links, 4G/5G transport, fronthaul & backhaul)
- Experience with voice transport design (TDM, SIP, VoIP, IMS/VoLTE)
- Working knowledge of engineering systems (Netcracker, MapBlaster, VMR, Design Investigator, Spatial Web)
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and decision‑making skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to mentor and share knowledge effectively
Other Requirements
- Experience working in onshore‑offshore delivery models
