Position Overview

The Senior Protection Engineer shall be responsible for overseeing the Protection Systems activities throughout the development lifecycle for a defence program. The role will involve integrating and conducting systems engineering design, development, verification, and validation of protection systems. The Senior Protection Engineer will be required to work collaboratively with all subcontractors including, but not limited to, Hanwha Aerospace (HAS), Elbit Land Systems, Plasan, and Bisalloy. Collaboration with program managers and technical teams will be critical to the success of this role.

Primary Duties

- The Senior Protection Engineer leads the design, development and implementation of materiel in the field of vehicle mine blast survivability and vehicle projectile and fragmentation protection.
- Senior Protection Engineer is responsible for developing the overall Protection Systems strategy and plans for the project. This involves understanding the requirements, setting objectives and defining the testing scope.
- Senior Protection Engineer interfaces with project managers, subcontractors and CoA representatives to understand their expectations, provide progress updates and address any Protection System related concerns.
- Identifies potential risks and issues related to the Protection Systems activities and develops mitigation plans to address them effectively.
- Conducts testing,



validation and performance analysis of protection systems to ensure they meet required specifications.
- Evaluates delivered materiel against customer requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, provides recommendations and contributes to the implementation of actions.
- Guides and mentors staff.
- Other duties as required by the supervisor.

Note: Senior Protection Engineer might be required to travel to subcontractor and test locations which may be within Victoria, Interstate and Internationally.

Qualifications

- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering.
- Meets Engineers Australia criteria for Chartered Professional Engineer.

Experience

- Professional experience in Protection Systems Engineering activities, desirable in the defence industry delivering complex large-scale programs.
- Strong knowledge of Protection Systems principles, methodologies and best practice. Proficiency in system requirements analysis, test design, test execution and test reporting.
- Subject matter expertise and technical advice in the area of vehicle protection and survivability, and support to human engineering activities and design.
- Knowledge with military standards and regulations related to vehicle development is desirable.

- Meticulous approach to work, with the ability to identify potential risks and issues proactively. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work under tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrates adaptability and can be flexible to meet the needs of the organisation and other team members.
- Ability to be innovative and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
