Ready to lead on water and land? Step into a pivotal leadership role managing one of Queensland's most iconic marine environments.

As Ranger in Charge, you'll work closely with your Senior Ranger and peers to lead marine operations across the Great Sandy Marine Park. You'll inspire and support a high‑performing team, oversee a commercial vessel fleet, and deliver critical conservation, compliance, and visitor management outcomes.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of Queensland's most significant natural environments while leading a skilled team dedicated to protecting it for future generations.

Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBRMP) Region is excited to share an incredible opportunity for a OO6, Ranger in Charge to join the team on a Permanent basis.

As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBRMP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Additionally, the Region oversees the state's southern marine parks - Great Sandy Marine Park and Moreton Bay Marine Park.

We're looking for a dedicated and cooperative Ranger in Charge who can continue to lead our high‑performance teams and work closely with the Senior Ranger to deliver operational results in a dynamic marine environment. You'll bring sound judgement in managing risk, safety and compliance, along with strong communication, organisational, financial and digital skills. Most importantly, you'll have a passion for conservation, enjoy working outdoors,



and be committed to protecting Queensland's unique marine environments while working with communities, stakeholders and Traditional Owners.

Role Focus

- Lead people and performance—build a high‑performing, inclusive team through strong leadership, planning, coaching and collaboration to deliver operational excellence and annual business priorities.
- Drive marine park operations—lead diverse marine, conservation, compliance and visitor management programs, including vessel and dive operations, incident response and the delivery of field‑based projects.
- Protect natural and cultural values—apply legislation, manage risk and safety, and oversee compliance activities to conserve the Great Sandy Marine Park's unique environmental and cultural values.
- Partner with communities and stakeholders—foster strong relationships with Traditional Owners, local communities, stakeholders and partner agencies to promote stewardship and achieve shared conservation outcomes.
- Manage resources and deliver results—oversee budgets, contracts, procurement, infrastructure and commercial vessel assets while using sound judgement, innovation and contemporary business practices to achieve operational outcomes.

Qualifications

To Be Considered You Must Hold The Following Qualifications:

- an automatic/unrestricted manual driver's licence

There are no mandatory qualifications required for this role. However, formal qualifications or capability to rapidly acquire such qualifications as specified below, would be highly regarded.

- Coxswain Grade1 Near Coastal or higher
