NSW Fair Trading is working to ensure safe marketplaces for goods, services and homes across New South Wales. We are on an exciting journey of transformation – reimagining how we deliver for the people and communities of NSW. Through our recent organisational realignment, we have built a new operating model designed to put customers at the centre of everything we do, strengthen our regulatory impact and enable our people to thrive. We are creating a modern, responsive and risk‑based Fair Trading that understands the needs of people and businesses, embraces collaboration and innovation, and delivers better outcomes across the rental, strata, property and consumer markets we serve.

About the Team

The Governance, Assurance and Performance team plays a key role in enabling Fair Trading to deliver confidently, responsibly and with impact. The team partners with business areas to provide practical governance and assurance support across risk, compliance, business continuity and reporting. The focus is on proportionate, outcomes‑driven governance – helping teams understand their obligations, manage risk effectively and deliver on priorities.

About the Role

As an Advisor, Governance and Assurance, you will contribute to the delivery of governance and assurance practices across Fair Trading. You will support the development and implementation of risk, compliance, privacy,

information management and business continuity activities that strengthen organisational capability and reduce exposure. You will work closely with business units to translate governance requirements into practical, fit‑for‑purpose solutions, ensuring governance and assurance activities are embedded in day‑to‑day operations rather than treated as standalone processes. This role offers the chance to build your expertise while contributing to a high‑impact function that supports strong decision‑making, accountability and performance.

- Thinks deeply about the needs of people and communities.
- Is motivated by great outcomes, not just processes.
- Wants to be part of an organisation that’s transforming how consumer protection regulation works.

Key Responsibilities

- Contribute to the development and delivery of governance and assurance programs, ensuring work meets organisational and government requirements.
- Support the design and delivery of projects and initiatives, applying sound project management and governance practices.
- Prepare high‑quality briefings, reports, committee papers and analysis to support decision‑making and meet compliance obligations.
- Assist in the implementation of risk, compliance and assurance activities, contributing to improved practices and outcomes.
- Build effective relationships with stakeholders to support collaboration,

influence outcomes and promote a strong governance culture.
- Monitor emerging issues, trends and policy requirements, and contribute to the development of practical solutions and improvements.
- Coordinate and support multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.

About You

- You are an emerging governance and assurance professional who is practical, collaborative and outcomes‑focused.
- Experience supporting governance, risk, compliance or assurance activities in a complex environment.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate information into clear insights and recommendations.
- Confidence in preparing high‑quality written materials including reports, briefings and presentations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and work collaboratively across teams.
- Sound organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A proactive approach, with curiosity and willingness to learn and continuously improve.
- You understand that good governance enables better outcomes and you are motivated to contribute to a practical, proportionate and impactful function.
