Job Description

- Part‑time (3 Days), ongoing - Thursdays required
- Based in Hervey Bay, on the lands of the Butchulla (Badtjala) people, with flexible working conditions on offer
- $51.23 - $54.39 per hour + 12% Super + Generous salary packaging benefits of up to $18,550

Join a passionate team delivering financial and wellbeing support to individuals and families experiencing vulnerability. Within the Child, Youth & Family Wellbeing program, you’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team to help people navigate financial challenges and build stronger, more secure futures.

Your role, your impact

As a Financial Counsellor, you’ll play a vital role in supporting people facing financial hardship, including those impacted by complex life circumstances such as family violence, mental health concerns, and systemic barriers. Through your expertise, you’ll empower individuals with knowledge, advocacy and practical support, helping them make informed decisions and regain control of their financial wellbeing.

- Deliver holistic financial counselling through comprehensive client intake, assessments and tailored support plans
- Provide information and options to support informed financial decision‑making
- Lead casework and advocacy, including negotiation with creditors and financial institutions
- Develop person‑centred case plans considering cultural needs and co‑occurring challenges
- Identify and respond to risk,



including family violence risk assessment and ongoing monitoring
- Build strong service connections through referrals and collaboration with community partners
- Maintain accurate client records and contribute to data reporting requirements
- Engage in community initiatives and contribute to program development and outcomes

Who We’re Looking For

You are a compassionate and skilled professional who is passionate about advocating for financial wellbeing and social inclusion.

- Experience delivering financial counselling in a community or not‑for‑profit setting
- Strong knowledge of financial counselling frameworks, standards and relevant legislation
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with diverse communities
- Effective advocacy and negotiation skills to support positive outcomes
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Diploma of Community Services – Financial Counselling (fully completed)
- Eligible for membership of Financial Counselling Queensland (FCQ)
