I am looking to recruit a newly created job for an Assistant Payroll Manager and looking for an experienced payroll leader who is passionate about compliance, continuous improvement, technology, and mentoring team.
In this role you'll take ownership of a payroll operation while leading a team of 8
Reporting directly to the Head of Payroll and HR shared services Manager, you'll lead the payroll function for approximately 4000 employees, supported by 2 Senior Payroll Officer and 6 Payroll Officers. You'll be entrusted with ensuring payroll excellence today while designing and implementing the payroll function of tomorrow.
What You'll Be Responsible For:
Payroll Leadership
Oversee the accurate and timely processing of fortnightly and monthly payroll for approximately 4000 employees across 10 different payroll entites.
- Ensure compliance across awards, leave calculations, terminations, allowances, superannuation, taxation, and statutory obligations.
- Partner closely with HR and operational stakeholders to deliver an exceptional employee experience.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, automate manual tasks, and improve overall payroll efficiency.
- Leverage payroll technology, analytics, and emerging AI-enabled solutions to enhance accuracy and service delivery.
Compliance, Governance & Controls
- C*onduct audits, reconciliations,
and control reviews to minimise risk and ensure ongoing compliance.
About You:
You're a seasoned Payroll supervisor who combines strong operational expertise with a passion for transformation and continuous improvement.
You’ll bring:
- Extensive Australian payroll management experience (5+ years preferred).
- Proven experience managing high volume and a senior team.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance, governance, and risk management.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge existing practices and influence positive change.
- Demonstrated success leading payroll projects and business transformation initiatives.
- Outstanding leadership, communication, organisation, and prioritisation skills.
- A reliable working history, showing good tenure and consistency throughout payroll manager positions.
