If you're a Business Services Manager in Sydney who's been considering a move to Newcastle without sacrificing the quality of clients, career progression or the reputation of the firm, this could be exactly what you're looking for.
I'm partnering with a Top 8 accounting and advisory firm with 1,300+ staff nationally, currently looking to strengthen its leadership team in Newcastle. Following internal growth and structural changes, they're specifically looking for experienced Managers who can bridge the gap between Senior and Partner level while helping mentor and develop the next generation of accountants.
Why this opportunity?
- Join a nationally recognised Top 8 firm with over 1,300 staff across Australia.
- Be part of a thriving Newcastle office of 120 staff and 15 Partners, offering the resources of a large firm with the feel of a close-knit office.
- The nearby Maitland office (20 staff) is more senior-heavy, with many experienced accountants having relocated from Newcastle, providing great collaboration and career support across both offices.
- Work with an impressive portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, SMEs, construction businesses, trade companies and long-standing regional clients, with a strong mix of compliance and advisory work.
- This is a role where you'll have genuine ownership of client relationships while working closely with approachable Partners on strategic advisory engagements.
The Role
You’ll take ownership of a quality client portfolio while leading and developing a team of accountants.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing SME and privately owned business clients across a diverse range of industries.
- Acting as a trusted adviser on tax, business structuring and commercial matters.
- Reviewing financial statements and tax returns across a range of entity types.
- Leading, mentoring and developing Senior and Intermediate Accountants.
- Working alongside Partners on advisory projects, workflow planning and client strategy.
- Helping shape the future growth of the Newcastle office through leadership and coaching.
About You
We're keen to speak with professionals who have:
- CA or CPA qualification.
- Strong Business Services experience within Australian public practice.
- Current Manager experience, or an exceptional Assistant Manager ready to take the next step.
- Excellent technical capability across tax and compliance, with confidence in client-facing advisory work.
- A collaborative leadership style and passion for developing people.
This firm has a genuine focus on promoting from within and investing in long-term careers. Performance reviews are conducted annually, with additional reviews for new starters throughout the year, complemented by monthly one-on-one check-ins to ensure ongoing development and support.
Following recent changes within the team, there's been a significant investment in strengthening the office culture, with a real emphasis on collaboration, leadership accessibility and employee engagement.
- Adaptable "Work Where You Need To Be" policy following probation.
- Hybrid working and compressed working week options.
- Modern office workplace with excellent facilities.
- Paid parental leave.
- Dedicated wellbeing day each year.
- Monthly team BBQs and fully stocked food and drinks fridge.
- Salary sacrifice options.
- Paid community volunteering opportunities.
- $400 annual wellbeing allowance to spend on gym memberships, sporting events, marathon entries or other approved fitness activities (claimable quarterly).
- Dedicated parking spaces available for senior leadership positions.
