With a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and skills, the Counsellor Educator provides culturally secure, trauma‑informed counselling, education, and support to consumers and their families within a therapeutic community. The role promotes recovery, wellbeing, and engagement by delivering evidence‑based interventions in a safe, respectful, and culturally responsive environment.

This position is classified at Level 4 under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.

The role requires confidence, compassion, and a steady presence. Working alongside vulnerable individuals involves navigating complex situations, heightened emotions, and occasional setbacks. The successful candidate will demonstrate compassion, connection, acceptance, and respect while providing consistent, person‑centred support. A commitment to excellence in service delivery, combined with the ability to respond to challenging situations with professionalism and care, is essential in empowering individuals throughout their recovery journey.

Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

- Tertiary, equivalent, or relevant qualifications in social, behavioural, or health sciences.
- Demonstrated, well‑developed assessment and counselling skills.
- Experience in developing and delivering education and training programmes.
- Sound understanding of the impacts of mental health disorders and alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues, with experience providing rehabilitation strategies and support.
- Experience in group counselling and facilitation.
