Overview

We are seeking a General Manager to lead the trading and export function of the Australian business of one of Japan’s leading foodservice and food-related groups, exporting Australian‑sourced food ingredients to Japan and other Asian markets.

About the Role

This position plays an important role in supporting the procurement and export of food products from Australia and New Zealand to Japan and other Asian markets.

Working closely with suppliers, internal stakeholders and overseas group companies, you will contribute to building a stable and competitive sourcing network through supplier relationship management, market analysis and export coordination.

In addition to managing existing sourcing activities, the role is expected to contribute to the expansion of supplier networks and the identification of new sourcing opportunities that support the company’s long‑term growth objectives.

Main Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain solid relationships with food suppliers across Australia
- Source and procure food ingredients, with a focus on beef, dairy products, fruits, and grains (e.g., wheat and corn)
- Manage export operations to Japan and other Asian markets
- Oversee trade administration, customs clearance, logistics coordination, and container shipment management




- Optimize supply chain processes and proactively resolve operational issues
- Monitor food and agricultural commodity markets and provide market intelligence and reports
- Liaise and collaborate closely with the headquarters in Japan to ensure smooth business operations

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

- Native‑level Japanese language proficiency or equivalent
- Practical knowledge and experience in international trade, logistics, customs clearance, and import/export operations
- Proven experience in supplier negotiations and relationship management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proactive, hands‑on approach
- Experience in the food wholesale, food trading, or food manufacturing industry

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working for a general trading company, food trading company, or export‑oriented business
- Industry experience in food, agriculture, livestock, or related sectors
- Knowledge of and business experience within the Australian market
