Employment Details

- Type: Permanent Full‑time
- Classification: Aboriginal Health Worker / Practitioner
- Remuneration: $67,612.00 – $97,730.00 per annum (plus super and 17.5% leave loading where applicable)
- Hours: up to 38 per week
- Location: Young (based within Young District Hospital; provides outreach services to Temora and Cootamundra; travel to other district sites as required)

Who We Are

Our Aboriginal Health Team provides culturally secure and accessible programs and services in the Murrumbidgee region.

In addition to providing services to inpatients and clients individually, we offer several programs and services that Aboriginal Health staff within the Murrumbidgee LHD are trained in and responsible for implementing.

Responsibilities

The Aboriginal Health Worker role is non‑clinical and provides a variety of services in a community and/or hospital setting.



These services include advocacy, support, liaison and health promotion.

Aboriginal Health Workers communicate with, and facilitate access to, other government and non‑government organisations and support services to provide care that meets the social, emotional and cultural needs of the patient/client. This communication may occur during and/or after the person’s contact with the health service.

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner provides flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health services to Aboriginal clients, inpatients and the community, to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people.

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide a range of direct clinical services as defined by the scope of practice for the community in which they work.

Qualifications

- Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Hold a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) (or willingness to obtain within 2 years of commencement) and current registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- NSW WWCC.
- NSW Driver Licence and ability and willingness to travel for work purposes.
