Casual Assertive Outreach Support Worker
Number of Positions Available: 1
About the role The Assertive Outreach Support Worker provides nightly roving outreach across the Perth CBD, engaging with adults who may be intoxicated, distressed or disconnected from support. You will assess immediate needs, offer practical assistance and create safe, respectful connections that encourage people to accept help. The role also supports hospital diversion work across the East Metro health area, partnering with hospital teams.
Key responsibilities
- Engage proactively with adults in public spaces, offering calm, respectful and non‑judgemental support.
- Conduct risk assessments and determine suitability for entry into Bridge House sobering up service.
- Provide information, brief intervention, referrals and safe transport where appropriate.
- Explore Return to Country options when relevant.
- Maintain accurate records, data and risk documentation in line with organisational standards.
- Collaborate with hospitals, external agencies and internal services to ensure coordinated care.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive team environment.
What you will bring
- Diploma in Community Services or related discipline (desired) or significant experience in alcohol and other drug support.
- Practical experience in welfare, alcohol and other drug services or outreach work, with a robust understanding of trauma, mental health and challenges faced by people experiencing disadvantage.
- Ability to assess risk, respond calmly in high‑pressure situations and manage challenging behaviours.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with individuals who may be non‑engaging or intoxicated.
- Commitment to ethical practice, professional boundaries and collaborative teamwork.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Current Driver’s Licence.

Working conditions The role works a set roster each fortnight, including after‑hours shifts, with some overnight and weekend work. Casual shifts are offered as required.
