GWG Recruitment is proud to partner with Hunter Water to recruit a Lead Data Platform Engineer who will play a pivotal role in modernising the organisation's enterprise data capability.

Serving more than 600,000 people across the Lower Hunter, Hunter Water manages over $2.5 billion in critical infrastructure and is committed to creating a sustainable water future. As the organisation continues its digital transformation, this is an opportunity to help shape the next generation of its cloud data environment.

The Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional engineering role.

You’ll provide technical leadership as Hunter Water transitions from legacy data environments to a modern cloud platform. Working across Azure, Snowflake, Databricks and Azure Data Factory, you’ll establish engineering standards, mentor the team and build a secure, scalable platform that supports analytics, operational decision‑making and future AI capability.

You’ll influence architecture, shape engineering practices and leave a lasting impact on a major transformation program.

About You

You’ll be a hands‑on technical leader with experience designing and supporting modern cloud data platforms. You enjoy solving complex problems, mentoring others and introducing engineering best practices that improve consistency, quality and delivery.





You’ll bring experience across areas such as:

- Snowflake and Databricks including DBT transformations and deployment
- Azure Data Factory, Azure Machine Learning and data ingestion pipelines
- Python and SQL
- CI/CD, Azure DevOps and automation
- Data governance, security and platform engineering
- Coaching and developing engineering capability

You’ll also enjoy collaborating with others and helping build a modern engineering culture where continuous improvement is the norm.
