About the Role: This position will support the Hospitality Assistants and Assistant Manager to ensure productive, effective service and organisation of the day to day running of the Waterfront and Waurn Ponds Pantry. The position will also support the Hospitality Assistants and Assistant Manager to direct the team in regard to standards and processes and includes set up/pack up, cafe and waiter service, catering and large scale function service, presentation, maintenance, cleanliness and safety and includes any required problem solving to successfully deliver excellence in high end customer service outcomes to enhance the guest experience. This position is based on a roster system and flexibility of hours is required to work mornings, days, evenings and/or weekends across Waterfront and Waurn Ponds Campuses.

To be successful you will have:

- Min 2 years experience in similar role
- Be friendly, with a positive attitude and work ethic
- Proven track record running large scale events
- Have excellent time management and organisational skills
- Able to prioritise and organise workload to deadlines
- Supervisory level knowledge local licensing laws & regulations relating to food / beverage preparation and serving
- Sense of urgency
- Sound project management skills
- Results oriented and solution driven
- Outstanding customer service skills with a focus on exceeding customer needs and expectations
- Perform hands on tasks and work at a fast pace
- Be able to work autonomously and as part of a team. Offering effective contribution to enhance team performance
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Have excellent coffee skills
- Good working knowledge of food and wine
- A sound understanding of the café, catering & venues market




- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
- Highly effective interpersonal skills through the establishment and maintenance of strong working relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy in all work completed
- Demonstrated ability to identify areas for improvement and develop and implement workable and creative solutions

- Proven dedication to building and maintaining strong value based business relationships
- Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification

Your key responsibilities will be to:

- Provide customer and hospitality service to all visitors, guests, students and people to the university’s Waterfront and Waurn Ponds Pantry.
- Recognise the importance of teamwork and of effective communication amongst team members and build rapport within immediate team in ways that are respectful and inclusive of others. Coach, guide and support team members as needed to deliver against individual, team and University goals.
- Clarify expectations and respond promptly to client requests, queries, or complaints to ensure client needs are met to agreed standards and timelines.
- Deliver effective and efficient outcomes and outputs against team and operational work plans.




- Take personal responsibility and show initiative to meeting goals and objectives contributing to an inclusive team environment.
- Improve convenience and accessibility by providing a range of service options.
- Build productive relationships with a diverse range of existing stakeholders and actively seek to maintain positive relationships.
- Present information in a clear, structured, concise and tailored way by focusing on key messages and check that messages are understood and meet audience needs.

Additional requirements:

- Regular work outside business hours is required. Hours of operation for this position are on a rostered basis for Waterfront Pantry. The possible rostered hours can range from Monday to Sunday, 6 am– 2 am. The roster changes weekly in line with confirmed bookings.
- The role requires the incumbent to apply for and maintain a Working with Children Check.
